Don’t cede to the US ‘justice’ system – 5 years is grossly inadequate
This kind of thing is governed by the NATO [status of forces agreement](https://www.nato.int/en/about-us/official-texts-and-resources/official-texts/1951/06/19/agreement). The agreement gives the host nation primary jurisdiction over these kinds of cases, though the guest nation can prosecute them if the host nation chooses not to do so. Why Suffolk police chose not to do so is a question for them, but I would just note that whilst the involvement of US servicemen makes this case notable, the fact that a police force chose not to proceed with the investigation of a rape allegation unfortunately does not.

As we all should be aware, the US doesn’t like when its servicemen (and citizens in general) are brought to justice by any foreign court. Usually it is agreed that they will handle it, and much more often than not, the punishment (if there even is one) is grossly inadequate, to say the least.
Which brings again the point, why should we host their bases when it seems they enjoy a fair bit of sovereignity on our own territories, all in exchange for the very dubious promise that „we will totally come help you if you are attacked“.
Standard procedure when US military are charged with crimes abroad. I’ts always been this way.
Obviously Stephen Yaxley-Lennon wont be organising any protest at the airbase to protect women.
The UK, where actual rape goes unpunished but trans people are sent to jail for dating while trans. Abhorrent.
US military has been raping women (inluding women of their allies) whereever they go and rapists are protected by US military and goverments. Okinawan women are victim of similar crimes for decades too. US claims those bases there to protect its allies but women need protection against them.
Foreign soldiers raping British women on British soil and evading justice. How is this not a hostile occupation?

With the hiring bar for the army at an all time low because of transient obesity, it’s now a great place for unemployed criminals and sadists to join.
