People keep referring to Switzerland as the water tank of Europe and I think many in Switzerland believe that because we have dams and glaciers we will never run out of water.
I fear this is a fake sense of security and we will be hurting a lot in the coming decades
I hope the good people in this country will realize that SVP and FDP are upto no good. They need to be taught a lesson until they change their policies at least towards the environment.
There is no economy on a dead planet.
I need to write this down because I see a lot of panic and misinformation going around every time we have a drought: There is enough rain and snow melt in Switzerland for 20 Switzerlands, every year.
However, we don’t have the water storage capacity in high altitude reservoirs to bridge the ever longer dry months in summer. The water’s already flowed down into low rivers, lakes and out of the country.
This drought is about agriculture, not about drinking water. It affects crops. You will not die of dehydration. You might need to eat German lettuce instead of Swiss lettuce for a while.
Which drought? I don’t see nothing. /s

Climate change and biodiversity loss are real.
This year, many governments have declared states of emergency and warned that the collapse of various systems and industries is highly likely to happen imminently.
We have experienced catastrophes this year that governments have been unable to manage. We have seen unprecedented disruptions to the jet stream, and governments around the world have raised the alarm that various systems are most likely to collapse *imminently*. It’s measurable. Even reinsurers raise alarms.
Time already seems to have run out for many places. There is no longer any room for speculation. Scenarios are a thing of the past.
And everyone who believes Switzerland is in a good position is wrong. We will have to deal with consequences that are just as severe as those elsewhere. Having AC wont solve anything.
I grew up in Texas and often are days here are hotter than back home.
And it breaks my heart to see how dry everything is here in the Jura & it is an immediate flashback. So worried…

The issue is that the farmers will probably do an initiative because it will make the hill of their village uglier
