I question anyone who didn’t see this coming from a mile away. It’s not so much betrayal as someone stabbing you in front of your eyes in slow mo for the last 30+ years.

This has to be a lesson for the Canadian government, Canadian companies,  and Canadian funds – any investment you make that depends on American approvals is an opportunity for them to shake you down for a better deal latter. I don’t think it has been widely reported, but CPP has been left holding the bag on about $100M when the US pulled permits for a wind farm and told them that they won’t issue a refund of the lease unless the refund was invested in fossil fuel project (I may be wrong on the exact details)

We should have threatened to close the Canadian side of the Ambassador Bridge. Yes it would have hurt us, but Diaper Don generally TACO’s when he meets the least bit of resistance, like any schoolyard bully does.

The only proper move is to sanction the Moroun family and all their assets, because they’re the primary factor in preventing the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge.
