Not surprised, not even Trump’s wife or kids trust Trump.
Less-Guest6036 on
Seems a sensible, if diplomatic, response to the question. Trump cant be trusted.
Fancy_Toe1451 on
Well, duh. Nobody with an ounce of sense trusts Trump. Even his closest political allies do not trust him. The only people who do are the members of his cult, and even then the shine of MAGA is starting to wear off with the continuing mishandling of Iran.
ItsAllGoneKongRong on
Right, as he shouldn’t. You can’t trust a dementia patient to swallow properly much less run a country.

Trusting trump would be fucking stupid for anybody. Man doesn’t know his right from his left and can be bought for a compliment.

He also refused to say he was going to give me £10m.
Why dont we just spend our time listing all the things he’s never said? Ill start.
He’s never said Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same person.

Why the hell should he?
I’d be worried if he said he did.
Bluestained on
Well yes because he doesn’t and shouldn’t.
He’s a convicted fraudster. Literally convicted for lying. He doesn’t adhere to agreements he made let alone ones the US has had for decades. He has no troom for truth in his life so the question should really be- Why would you trust Trump.
NoSwordfish1978 on
Saying you trust Trump is like saying you trust Bernie Madoff with your finances.
But I’m sure the Torygraph will try and spin it negatively.

The Telegraph trying to make this out to be a bad thing when in really should be the baseline for any PM.

Good.

Would you trust someone with 34 criminal convictions?

We all agree, but one thing Starmer did exceptionally well is play Trump like a fiddle. I’m not sure it’s smart to antagonise him.

What’s the benefit to the nation of the national broadcaster pressing home this point in a new PM’s first interview.
Be craven to Trump, he sees you as weak. And may attack. Stand up to him, he may have a hissy fit, and attack. We all know this.
What the point in provoking this on day one.
Serious-Comment5458 on
Such a stupid question to ask a sitting PM. What’s he supposed to say? „No, I don’t trust the leader of one of the most powerful countries who are supposed to be an ally“. Of course not, you’re only ever going to get a diplomatic skirt around a question like this because there isn’t any good answer. I wish they’d ask more thought-provoking questions, instead of just trying to create headlines.

Why would you even ask that question… Creating problems

Who trusts Trump, outside his cult? Difference between Burnham and most of the world’s politicians seems to be that Burnham isn’t a liar. Strangely, neither was Starmer but the Telegraph and other foreign-controlled propaganda rags managed to get rid of him so the anti-Burnham campaign will pick up steam.
Somewhere down the line one of his policies will be picked up and portrayed as betraying voters with more vehemence than they have ever showed for Tory or Reform corruption or illegality.
You know, like £5m bung from a criminal is not important but accepting a pair of glasses is unacceptable.

Why would they write an article like this. For goodness sake. It’s like they want to cause tension between the USA and the uk prime minister.
Because you know trumps people will see a headline like that and report it straight to trump.
Of course we don’t trust trump. Something about his track record makes this pretty obvious. But why do they need to push this.
The media really irritates me sometimes.
It’s a stupid question, with a no win answer.

Journalists absolutely love this question as no matter what you say its a headline, if you say you trust him you look like an absolute nutter, you say you dont it causes a political outrage, you dont say yes or no people say you are indecisive, afraid to offend Trump (therefore weak) and people can make assumptions you do or dont..

The usual bullshit reporter question. If he refuses to answer, that’s the headline. If he says he trusts him the headline is „Burnham is a moron to trust Trump“, if he says he doesn’t trust him – „Special relationship is DESTROYED“. You can’t win.

Good man, there are only two ways to answer this question diplomatically: refuse to answer, or lie.
Nobody can trust Trump. Even his allies can be cast aside on a petulant whim. He’s a pathological liar to the point I’m not sure he even knows what the truth is. For his family and friends, even if he’s trying to be truthful I suspect he forgets or misconstrues things.
If you say you trust him you’re a lying suck-up. I’m glad Burnham did not demonstrate himself to be in that category.
