    1. She wants to „win the hearts and minds of Americans“. About 60 percent of Americans, and *all* of the sane ones, disapprove of Trump’s performance on trade, and presumably of those tarriffs. Unfortunately their political system doesn’t implement their „hearts and minds“.

    2. >Smith says she prefers to stay calm and win the hearts and minds of Americans instead of retaliating with an alcohol ban.

In other words, she plans to do nothing; or rather, she plans to accept the terms as presented by the MAGA GOP and treat them as the new status quo.

I expect that her tone would become even more internally adversarial if the federal Government were to engage in any sort of trade retaliation that would restrict exports from Alberta to the USA. Which I expect hasn’t happened in part because of the looming votes within Alberta.

The MAGA GOP is certainly aware of this, and will make further attempts to drive a wedge between Canadians. Which Smith will almost certainly accept with a similar level of pleasantry towards the Americans and dismissiveness to her fellow Canadians as she is showing at present. It will leave the Federal Liberals in an awkward position of having their hands tied lest they incur the ire of Albertans.

    3. Given that her own base is both separatist trators and super-fans of the American right, she can’t be seen doing anything critical of dear leader. It’s so predictable.

    4. I like having Danielle Smith around because it gives us a little glimpse into how Pollievre would have acted as PM.

I read a comment the other day that said, „why should Alberta retaliate when Ontario and Quebec won’t budge on dairy?“ It just goes to show how mindsets are driven significantly based off who you hear from.

    6. So much for sharing the pain… that premier is actively working against the east of the provinces and federal government I swear.

Did everyone see her comments on cbc?

about having 90% of exports being tariff free from Alberta to USA.

At no time did she say she would change that or that she and the Alberta province would impose any tariffs on American products.

In fact she kept mentioning that the Americans wanted more oil and energy and that Alberta would negotiate towards that.

Instead of actually helping the rest of the provinces in trying to control the Americans by punishing them with reduced oil, electricity and water. Let’s rewards the Americans by providing more oil and power to them., while they continue to chip away at the rest of our economy.

I’d imagine her government believes a vigorous and enthusiastic foot massage would be a more proper answer considering the leg work that’s being done for them.

No federal money for Alberta oil pipelines then. Canada should do everything possible to support infrastructure for green hydrogen from the ground. There are deposits, they don’t add to climate change and the world wants it for ships, trains and trucks. Time to move is now.

Nice oil you have there, Danielle…it would be a shame if someone put export controls on it because you don’t want to play along with the rest of the team.

Right, because insanity is doing the same thing that has been done before while expecting a different result. What have the alcohol bans in the other provinces gotten us, in terms of concessions from the US?

    11. Strange I always thought that foreign policy was a federal jurisdiction. I guess when the American oil industry owns your province you operate under different rules.

Right, let’s try a more thoughtful one, then.

We have a Premier that refuses to raise minimum wage, which is a move that directly benefits base level companies with major foreign investment, the majority of which is American, who employ armies of people at minimum wage, or within 3 dollars of it, as a rule, while ratcheting up shareholder value quarterly, like clockwork.

Some of said companies are the very liquor stores that sell said booze.

All the conservative governments I’ve seen under the last 25 or 30 years I’ve been old enough to care about politics have had significant America-centric attitudes, and have all but held the door open for them in the business and industrial areas, to the point where our economy has been so inflated by their investment money that we cannot live without it now.

And as most of us seem to be on the same page now, that such an economically dependant relationship with a single other nation is incredibly terrible, and disturbingly similar to an abusive romantic relationship, conservatives are STILL preaching dependence on and capitulance to them. Or outright joining them.

Dani3ll3 Smith is unpatriotic that’s as polite as I can put it.
She would rather stab Canada in the chest than stand up to The Batista of Bullshit, the Shah of Shitposting. She won’t entertain an export tax or raising the price per barrel. Nope Dani wants to give them an even better deal as the Mango Mussolini continues to wage a War of Economics on Canada because he can.
It’s no wonder she’s won’t defend Canada, she wants Alberta to be absorbed.
If Alberta thinks they get a raw deal from Canada, wait until the US pillages them.
