    1. What was fueling NC’s contribution? The rest makes sense…but what about NC would have made her outweigh her southern neighbors so heavily? Am I seating this correctly?

      Poor RI and CT were both severered from the warm bosom of New England.

      North Carolina was a relatively poor state at that point. But the cigarette tax, paid by smokers all over the country, technically came from NC, because the tax revenue was collected where the tobacco was produced.
