      Okay? Cool? Thank you, mayor of a city who has absolutely no impact on foreign policy.

      This man promised he would arrest him during the campaign and then pretends like he just now „reviewed‘ the issue and decided he cannot do it. He knew all along he had no power here.

      Jacobin remains glazing this man, even when he makes a whole video admitting his promise was a failure.

      This whole thing is prolonged this much because Bibi’s own government wants to jail him for corruption and as long as there’s a war going on, they can’t do that. He’s just adding to his list of crimes at this point and showing how little he values anyone but himself.

      You could also substitute „Trump“ in for Bibi and the same paragraph still somewhat applies.

      That’s true, but its also true of Xi, Putin, Trump, etc. Not sure why calling for the arrest of foreign tyrants should be a litmus test, because in the long run it is a test that will overwhelmingly benefit neoconservatives.

      Too bad nothing can be done about it. The U.S. is not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and does not recognize its warrants. Furthermore, a 2002 U.S. law explicitly prohibits extraditing anyone to the ICC, and to top it all off, sitting heads of state hold diplomatic immunity under domestic and United Nations protocols.

      Agreed, even if I think Jacobin being right says more about the grievous crimes Bibi has committed than the trustworthiness of Jacobin as a source of information.

      He certainly is, but i mean he is only a NYC mayor. He is a great man, but his power has limit.

      That’s something that our president should be doing

      And hopefully the Israeli courts will finally finish his trial. There have been PMs that have gone to prison in the past, hopefully he will be there soon. (And then Ben Gvir and Smotrich will follow.)

      Does Netanyahu belong in jail? Yes. Does a mayor have any power to arrest him himself? No, of course not. I like Mamdani a lot, but even entertaining the idea of arranging for Netanyahu to be arrested was completely ridiculous. Mayors very obviously cannot arrest foreign world leaders on for crimes that happened in other countries. It’s fine that he’s openly calling for the federal government to arrest him even though they extremely obviously won’t. But don’t entertain ridiculous ideas that would clearly be overstepping his authority.

      Implicating Netanyahu implicates his partner in crime, the US. Never going to happen. There’s a reason why the US have been fighting against any sort of repercussions or accountability against Israel for all these years. They’re partners.

      Okay then. Why stop there? That’s the only head of state Mamdani has singled out in such a fashion, yet Netanyahu is far from the only one who should be tried.

      Seriously, he’s not beating the anti-semitism allegations with stunts like this. If someone only cares about human rights violations when they’re alleged against the world’s only Jewish-majority state, and no one else, they should just embrace their bigotry at this point.

      So do a lot of world leaders that come to the UN. If we started arresting all of them no one would come to the UN and it would defeat the purpose of the UN.

      I would love to see Netanyahu arrested. But arresting him for visiting NYC for diplomatic purposes is hugely problematic.

      And I find it equally problematic that we haven’t said the same about any other world leader who has committed war crimes and come to the UN for diplomatic reasons. Putin for example, or Ahmadinejad, among others.
