Europe Must Prepare for a Postwar Russian Mafia Surge!
I want to sound the alarm bells because I believe that the chances of a Huge Russian Organized Crime wave rising after the war are 100%. The likes of which the world has never seen.
History has shown that after major wars, large numbers of young men come home trained to fight, used to violence, and often struggling to rebuild normal lives. Some return with weapons experience, military connections, trauma, and very few economic opportunities.
When that happens in a country already dealing with corruption, black markets, and powerful criminal networks, organized crime can grow quickly. Veterans can be recruited into existing gangs, form new groups of their own, or bring military skills into the criminal world. That can make these organizations more violent, better organized, and much harder for governments to control.
Europe needs to start preparing now! That means sharing intelligence, tracking illegal weapons, cracking down on Russian money laundering, and keeping a close eye on criminal groups connected to returning fighters. It is better to take this seriously before these networks become richer, more violent, and harder to stop.
Interesting take and generally true, the question is how organized this will be, because the caliber of men shipped to frontlines is rather sub par. They may offset smart moves with sheer violence.

Well most of them does not return and anyways pretty much most of them who fight there are criminals already fresh out of prison cells to Ukraine.

Just ban all Russians from travelling, for eternity, or at least they’ve shown they can behave themselves, go 5 decades.

great. right after the mafia surge when eastern block fell 40 years ago we prepare for another generation of mobsters. isn´t war really beneficial for us all? /S

I hope that the Polish Border Guard and Frontex will work hard, it’s good that there is a wall on the eastern border, it probably should be expanded to cover Ukraine.
It would also be reasonable to ban all Russians from EU dual holders too.

It’s more easy that the mafia surge will come from ucrainian bacause there the structural state is destructed so no order is assured

Why doesn’t it concern Ukrainian men who are much more likely to enter EU?

Also Ukrainian. We support Ukraine because they have been attacked but let’s not kid ourselves, it was not exactly a law and order country before the war and it’s going to be much worse after, with thousands of demobilized men that have only known war for the last several years.

Russia?
We already have problems with ukrainians mafias in Poland. Why are you speaking about people who can’t even enter Europe legally when problems are already here.

Ukrainians are going to be a problem as well especially for those who has been in war and seen alot of death and destruction ,its going to be hard to go back to normal life.
There are those who are going to be recruited by Russians to cause alot of problems in Europe, and they will have EU passports.
Most Ukrainians will be thankful for the help other countries gave them in the past, but help will stop at some point like it always does, some maybe even most have to go back to their country , there going to be resentment.
Was it all worth it in the end?
Think far right groups going to explode in Europe even more in the future.
Alot of the extreme groups will have Russians/Ukrainians in their ranks causing havoc.

Londongrad was the West project for Russia under Eltsine (weak Russian president and power in the hand of few oligarchs living in the West under the protection of Western « services « )
They Will try to revive it, mostly in Monaco, Dubai maybe Switzerland now I suppose.
But with China influence, maybe other Russian oligarchs zoos will emerge, maybe in BRICS such as Uruguay/Indonesia/Philippines/Thailand… Will they actually want a physical piece of it? Will Caucasus Uzbeks/Turks will get a piece too?

I always have the feeling the police simply doesn’t have the rights, manpower and resources to fight organized crime. If there would be military support and intelligence agencies helping them out it could be different. I don’t mind seeing bigger guns and military outfits if that meant that the Moroccan maffia gets destroyed in The Netherlands.
