As a Turk who travels often for work, Lebanon is my favorite country tied with Netherlands. Love the Lebanese. Very sorry for what they have been going through for half a century…

I remember reading that there’s more Lebanese people in Brazil than Lebanon.

But also a fun fact, the Lebanese population in the Ivory Coast and Nigeria are extraordinarily rich. And control vast amount of land and resources.

They’re so wealthy in fact some estimates put them as owning nearly as much as 50% of the valuable land in the city of Abidjan (largest city in the Ivory Coast).

    3. I had no idea that South America was such a hotspot for Lebanese Diaspora. Why? I mean, shit, there are potentially more Lebanese in Brazil than Lebanon lol

Also fun fact, good friends of ours when I was a kid were Lebanese. I had only met the mom and her daughter and was very confused when a dad started showing up to events instead of a second mom. I was not a bright child.

A lot of Lebanese people came to Sao Paulo Brazil (i have great grandparents on both sides of my family as examples) during the late 19/20th century. They said at the time that Brazil was regarded as a land of opportunity/ prosperity, abundance (resources) and more importantly peace; they got the peace right, as in prosperity it was partially true for some immigrants, as some industries were completely dominated by Lebanese families.

How did Brazil end up with 2 – 7 mil? 5 million people is pretty big difference.

    6. Had no idea there were that many Lebanese in Argentina too, now I want to hunt down some baklava here.

    7. Thank you Lebanon, without you us Australians wouldn’t have the wonder that is Bob Katter.

I’m from Mexico and have many friends from Lebanese descent, they’re great, family oriented, hard working people. We actually have a lot in common.

“El que no tenga un amigo libanés, que lo busque” it’s a saying in Mexico.

    9. Brazil has more people of Lebanese descent than Lebanon has Lebaneses. Also the Syrian diaspora is also quite large, around two million, if I’m not mistaken.

    10. I listened to a podcast about all the Shia Lebanese diaspora Hezbollah and IRGC financial network.
