Wait, there is a boycott? Why don’t they tell people?

If anyone is surprised by a reddit boycott being enough to affect a Christopher Nolan level movie, then I don’t know what to say to them

There was no boycott lmfao

Even as someone who does not like the casting at all and wishes it had been authentic Greek actors, anyone who thought this movie wasn’t going to make gangbusters was insane. If Oppenheimer could make so much money the much more easy to market odyssey was obviously going to surpass it.
Hogwarts legacy taught me disorganized online boycotts from angry nerds don’t really work, regardless of political affiliation.

What was the boycott over? It’s exhausting to keep up
WildRabbitz on
It wasn’t a boycott. It was just a bunch of right-wingers throwing a tantrum over Elliot Page and „inaccuracies“ around the story, so Space Karen wants to do his own AI version of it.

What boycott? I’m going to see it again this weekend.

Too good of a movie to fail. Saw it today in fact.

lol what boycott

I don’t think a boycott like that has ever really worked. Sometimes general disinterest happens to align with the trolls, and makes them think they caused a movie to bomb, but in nearly every instance it would’ve bombed anyway, and whatever “woke” thing they’re in a tizzy about is incidental.

The problem with media is that they amplify fringe voices on the internet . Like this article is absurd. It makes you feel like people were on the streets protesting this movie.
They were not. I think Elon twitted about it
Notiefriday on
Yeah boycott the best movie literally made in years. What next? Going to boycott Italian restaurants or Californian wine.
Perhaps they should arrange same time screenings of Melania for these guys.

A boycott only really works if the people doing the boycott otherwise would have bought the product.
If you say you intend to boycot something you weren’t expected to buy anyway, you actually just did nothing.

‚Boycot‘ 8 guys in their basement who would’ve absolutely seen it with their friends, if it wasn’t for that Black woman!

Its funny. They said it would be bad, and critical reviews came in. Then they said critics were just being scared of Nolan, and audience reviews came in. Then they said it would be a financial failure, and its weekend box office happened. Now they are on saying people just bought tickets and didnt see it.
Rude_Mirror7441 on
Lol no one boycotted or called for a boycott of the movie. Some people online just didn’t like casting choices.

Hoping it’s good. I fear Nolan peaked with Inception. Tenant was amazingly ambitious but had weird, flat out pacing. Oppenheimer went for something bold and cold but didn’t quite feel it landed it. An Ancient Greek mythology is ambitious again.

I don’t know about a boycott. I do know the film cost $250 million and marketing would be another $100 million plus. The movie may have exceeded expectations but they still need to make their money back.

Right-wing outrage as usual.
They tried so hard but it‘s Nolan. His movies aren‘t always entertaining but they are made for the big screen. Even the more intimate one‘s like Oppenheimer.
