Source: first-year vehicle taxes (registration/acquisition tax, VAT or GST, and any CO2- or engine-based levies) on one identical EUR 30,000 pre-tax petrol compact (1.5L, 130 g/km CO2), from national vehicle-tax schedules, converted at ECB mid-2026 rates. Tool: Python (matplotlib). Full 36-country table, per-country breakdown and a free CSV: [https://carsmultiverse.com/car-tax-by-country/](https://carsmultiverse.com/car-tax-by-country/)

One honest note on Singapore: its figure is mostly the COE, a 10-year entitlement that is partly recoverable through the PARF/COE rebate if you deregister early, so a shorter-term owner effectively carries less of it. It is shown in full here because that is what you pay at first registration.

I’m not surprised by Singapore but didn’t know Denmark was worse than Turkiye.
