LSD is one of the *newest* psychedelics, having only been synthesized in 1943.
Cool result for the cerebellum! Its non-motor roles are criminally under-explored.
I’ve never had peyote proper, but I remember enjoying synthesized mescaline a few times in the late 90s. I found it much more relaxing than LSD or mushrooms, and not very crippling. I remember taking a bluebook test for a philosophy class and getting an A on it, but my handwriting was quite different. I kept the test for a while out of interest over how drastically different my penmanship was. It was actually neater handwriting, but kind of undulated across lines but the line directly below followed the curvature of the line above, almost exactly.

The war on drugs really hinder scientists all around the world whereas it hasn’t stopped the medicine from still being used by indigenous communities and shamans. While the west is testing it on animals…..

This proposed mechanism, a dysregulated sensory filter, provides a parsimonious explanation for the characteristic perceptual alterations and sensory flooding reported in psychedelic experiences.“

Had someone gift me a whole sandwich bag of mescaline powder at a concert one time. I felt the magma of the earth cycling below and through me from a little palm lick of maybe up to a gram. Very intense but alert.
Because they are completely different types of chemicals, for one thing.
