I think he’s just realizing that Carney got the better of him on the Bridge deal and is acting out like a toddler.
This is a significant escalation. My bet is a TACO’s move but, if really applied, it would have significant implications in both countries.
I read quickly the executive orders. They go against our conter tarifs and the provincial US boozes ban what they call « discrimination ». You can make this up.
I can’t see how this doesn’t lead to more retaliatory measures from Canada at this point.

Canadians need to double down again on BABA, we need to vote with our wallets even harder so maybe some people in Congress will finally wrangle in this dementia president.
Time to ban all potash exports to the US and destroy their agricultural sector (most of which are in MAGA heavy states). Only let them have potash again if and when every tariff is rescinded.
The only consistent and stable message from this Administration, with respect to trade with Canada, is that they will undertake every measure possible to harm Canadian exports with the USA so long as Canadian exports with the USA continue to exist.
They’re making it *abundantly clear* that they wish to end this relationship, or force us to capitulate being made a vassal state; at best.

So he’s losing the actual war he started badly so he goes back to his trade war. No new wars President everybody.
Unless Congress constrains him, I think this sort of flip flopping/escalating then deescalating on a whim is going to continue with Trump and the U.S until at minimum the next administration. Trump isn’t consistent or broad minded enough to maintain a sustained bilateral agreement with. Our only real saving grace in the interim period is that CUSMA protects around 90% of trade inflows from this trade war nonsense.

There is no tariff they can impose that will make me buy American alcohol again, and Sailor Jerry used to be my favourite rum. But not anymore. And I will never buy any dairy from America given their very lax standards of food safety and growth hormone use. They continue to think they are owed our business, typical bully behaviour. FAFO.
