Speaking on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Feige said bluntly: “I am feeling like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.” Although the studio chief admitted at the same time it was “very exciting” to have Wesley Snipes back as Blade in 2024’s “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

It had to be unique,” Feige explained. “It fell into the time when we started pulling back and saying, ‘Only accept insanely great.’ And it wasn’t ‘insanely great’ at the time. We didn’t feel like, as we often do, you can have a good script and make it a great script through production. We didn’t feel confident that we could do that on ‘Blade,’ and we didn’t want to do that to Mahershala and didn’t want to do that to us.”
Missed opportunity to do something legendary while the superhero genre is getting stale
So it’s official, we’re not getting blade in the mcu, at least for now. I feel bad for Mahershala Ali, he waited around for a decade and probably turned down some great roles to keep his schedule open to film a movie that never came to be. Hope they at least let him be blade in an avengers movie or even a tv show

Sucks for mahershala though, dude probably missed out on quite a number of opportunities to keep his schedule open.
It sucks but Ali is 52, by the time they get a blade movie he’ll be like 57, unfortunately they should cast a younger actor someone in their 30’s so they can play blade for 10+ years
What he couldn’t figure out is how to make it PG-13.
It’s not a PG-13 Intellectual Property.
Weird to think that he’s technically still canon because of the Eternals post credits
I really liked Wesley Snipe when he came back, I would’ve shown up on day one for Snipes to return. He’s the Blade of my youth

Ali essentially plays a Blade-adjacent character in his new movie directed by the former director of the *Blade* reboot, only there are no vampires in this movie 🤷🏽♂️

Blade is R rated, it’s already worked (the first movie literally saved Marvel from bankruptcy), and 3 Deadpool movies since then have proved that you don’t need a PG13 to be successful.
Blade without gratuitous violence and foul language would have been ridiculous.
How could they not see Blade would work perfectly as a D+ series? Look to Daredevil.

With how long it takes between projects currently, it doesn’t make sense to push forward on a reboot with a 52 year old actor.
If its successful you would probably have a Blade thats pushing 60 years old for the sequel.
FYI the guy that was hired to direct the MCU’s Blade has an upcoming revenge movie starring Mahershala Ali which looks like basically a non-vampire Blade. It’s called Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother and he’s got a sword and everything.
This should have been a slam dunk like Black Panther. This seems like the easiest character ever to adapt, Coogler and his team probably could have just done it themselves. Crazy mismanagement since Endgame.
I honestly believe Feige. I mean, we know all of the things that have been produced over this same span of time, so whatever they had for Blade must have been pretty awful.
Getting a good screenwriter or writing team to focus on Blade is easy for Marvel/Disney. It just isn’t/wasn’t a high enough priority to push for them and/or they simply didn’t have the time to put energy into it because they had far too many projects.
Either way, its probably for the best, because I am almost certain they would have made a bad show/movie out of whatever they had at the time. The thing about Marvel is that they go into every casting decision and „character introduction to the MCU“ as an „only-one-shot-at-this“ situation. They hate and avoid recasting as much as possible, and everything needs to fit together forever. They got so squeamish about FOX/Sony properties and releases simply existing, that they made a conscious effort to bring the old actors back to reprise roles – all so they can say „SEE!!!! IT ALL FITS TOGETHER!“
They know if they fumble the presentation of Blade, then they just won’t ever do Blade again.
It’s amazing how much Marvel has shot themselves in the foot.
Since Endgame, they’ve spent 7 years making films about an already dead Black Widow, the Eternals who no one ever heard of, another Ant Man film no one asked, and couldn’t make a movie for fucking Blade that would’ve gone triple platinum with no features

Well there’s the problem right there: That’s exactly what the audience wanted.
Now how that translates to being a $150+ million dollar budget in hopes of grossing $700+ million, and connect it to the larger MCU: maybe that’s where they got tripped up.
Plain old greed killed the project.
MCU has been boring for awhile. New Spider-Man might rekindle my interest in it. That being said I would rather have multiple ongoing series of comics type cartoons like X-Men 97. So much more you could work with than the MCU limited options and expectations. Just give us nonstop animated options. 5 shows every season of the year with literal decades of comic storylines at their disposal. Seems like a no brainer to me.
Blade doesn’t really work without Wesley Snipes… I mean it could work if you have Matt Berry’s Lazlo be his ’sidekick‘ or partner, since Blade shares the same universe of What We Do In The Shadows. 😸

This man is a moron. That’s precisely what audiences wanted and they would have turned out for it. Overthinking creative processes is a disease.

Blade, War Machine, T’Challa, Sam, and Fury were handled really poorly. Now what do these chart have in Common?
What works about blade, hes antiestablishment. And there is no doubt the movie would have been excuses to bring in other characters…. And they bungled it up, even if it’s Dracula on a space satellite base.
And it all boils down to Disney asking “How can we make this black broody badass COMPLETELY BLOODLESS. Not a drop on screen! Were the studio that insisted a character get their throat slit in ‘Black Panther’ but refused to let a drop of blood be shown from said action. Everything we make is mostly aimed at babies and vampires & strong black characters are scary to people so let’s spin our wheels for a few years figuring out how to take something cool, badass & awesome and remove all the cool, badass & awesomeness without audiences noticing/caring enough to affect box office draws.” I loath Disney.
So that cameo in Eternals is absolutely pointless now.
They wasted everyone’s time spinning the wheels on this project, and it is a shame. MA would have done amazingly well in the role, and I would prefer any Blade film exist in its own bubble, completely disconnected from the MCU—not even a dang cameo. Sheesh!

On the plus side the Black Panther director made an award winning black vampire movie using some of the costumes they didn’t use in the Blade reboot so this wasn’t a total loss.
It’s not like the original Blade trilogy was peak cinema lol. They were fun, but it was just Wesley Snipes killing vampires. Baffling to see how they couldn’t get that off the ground when they have done R rated movies in the past.
