>He said photographs of the scene were taken which showed the nests belonged to House Martins which he explained were an Amber listed species, meaning they are of conservation concern as their numbers are dropping.
>Mr Buckley said eggs were smashed and there were pictures of dead House Martin chicks. He said “one little chick” survived and was rescued. He said a number of nests were destroyed and they had been “blasted off a wall”.
>Judge Andrew Cody asked him what he meant by blasted and Mr Buckley explained that they had been power-washed off a wall of the property.
Jesus Christ. An estimated 205 endangered birds killed in this incident, all because an estate agent didn’t care. The suggested financial penalty doesn’t really seem like enough.

Over 60% of Ireland’s bird species are endangered and people like this are a huge part of why.

On Bull Island, the sand martin nests are extremely exposed. On the Howth-facing side of the island, dogs are supposed to be kept on leads, though hardly anyone seems to bother.
This summer, I saw two people with their dogs off-lead, and both dogs were right in among the nests. I completely lost my shit. I confronted the owners, only for them to give out to me as though I was the one in the wrong.
Honestly, it’s a wonder there’s any wildlife left on Bull Island at all.

those birds would have been on their way by September if the workmen just waited. The poop on window sills in the meantime would just have been caking on other poop doing no additional harm.

What a heartless piece of „““..
I got 5 nests this year, they can be annoying, pyramid of droppings under the nest, little loud, poo on the car, BUT all you have to do is wait a few weeks for the nests to empty…
*As I like watching them come back every year, the nest will stay*

The fine is likely in and about what the agents earned in commission from the sale which would mean they have not been punished, they have had to do with a profit on this one sale. The fine should be multiples of the commission earned

It’s warped individuals who see nothing wrong with harming a living creature
The people should have been jailed. 200 odd birds/chicks killed. Disgraceful
Clement Heron Real Estate is the name of the EA
Hope his piles get piles.
€1000 a pop seems reasonable.
Clambering men in big bad boots, dug up my den, dug up my roots.
Estate agents are an invasive species we don’t need for anything. A job for the illiterate.
