The AI Slop Purge has arrived. So far Youtube has deleted 130,000 channels, and it's bad news for Youtube's biggest creators.

Can’t believe it took this long for it to happen  the amount of AI slop content especially in shorts is staggering

    2. the ai slop will never stop unless ai or youtube disappears for some reason. they’ll just create new accounts, bot them to hell and the videos will show up in feeds anyways

    3. A lot of that AI slop is terrible. I came across several channels that appeared to be aimed at children, yet a significant portion of the AI slop videos were weirdly sexual and suggestive.

    4. infinitealchemics on

A ton of larger creators are completely run by an Ai agent posting there work from some file directory they upload to. Im sure when the dust settles things will work out. Hopefully this puts an end to the million „fast easy money with this ai trick for auto generating content.“

What are they purging exactly? It appears they’re aggressively promoting slop accounts, if anything.

    6. Big tech takes a minimum of responsibility. I’m impressed. I thought they’d blindly go for max profit, and poop on common decency.

    7. I just got back from Stockholm and there were two different art exhibitions that used AI, at museums. One was just fake photos of WW2 soldiers. It was shocking.

It was getting so bad, almost every video had some element of AI in it. AI has made death scrolling into a transcendental meditation in the worst wa.y

    9. Its funny cause even when the top 10 comments are pointing out its AI, you’ll still get 30+ comments „omg so beautiful“ „inspirational“ likely from more AI.

    10. „You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers in this racket.“

    11. Genuine question: Am I the only one that never gets any AI slop shorts/videos on my YouTube feed? Everyone around me seems to be getting them consistently but I haven’t seen one in a couple of months.

I’m in no way, shape, or form denying their existence. I’m just curious.

    12. At least a third of the shorts are AI slop when I’m doomscrolling, so youtube can crack the whip a bit harder imho.

I’ve been trying to get them out my feed. I fall asleep to videos so bs so plays while I’m asleep, without my knowledge till i wake up and find something else. Now tons of this crap is in my feed. Plus it shows up on my music feed too. This trash sucks. Anyone know if addons and such that can make this go away?

“Reading their comments, many people don’t seem to be able to tell, or don’t care.”

      Many are also just bots

    15. MeanWafer904 on

Yeah some people really can’t tell. Some of it is hard to spot but I’ve been sent really obvious stuff and been like you know this is AI don’t you?

It doesn’t help that Youtubes upscaling thing they started doing made genuine videos look off. Blurring the lines between real and AI

    16. Brilliant-Muffin-879 on

Googles pushing ai gen shite 🤣 they’re providing the vending machines which pump this shit out.

    17. Dr_Henry-Killinger on

It’s insane that there isn’t a law for like a mandatory digital signature on every AI video to immediately show whether its AI or not.

    18. Thank God. My in laws live in my house half the year and they pretty much exclusively watch AI slop geared towards senior citizens and music channels with just weird looking AI generated video people. I’m so sick of hearing it in my house.

    19. Source_Required on

Wild how different people’s algorithms are. I’ve never seen AI content pop up on YouTube for me.

    20. But they still haven’t terminated the baby monkey abuse channels that have been around for over 8 years now.

    21. jonnyredcorn on

My feed is full of video game AI slop videos and channels. Pixel dragon is one of them that keeps showing up even though I’ve selected to not recommend.

Pretty sure gamingbolt has started using AI gen to put out videos too, which I don’t think they were before.

    22. Anticlimax1471 on

Can they start doing it for YouTube music now please? I used to play mix feeds so I could be introduced to new music, but now every other song is AI shite, making anything other than my personally created playlists impossible to listen to

    23. Crazy bc every time I report something that’s AI slop spreading misinformation about false medical stuff I’m always sent a reply saying it’s fine and no action was taken.

    24. So Google is at the same time building tools to generate the AI slop and also deletes what it produces? And they dont find this weird at all? Im not some green activist – but what is the carbon footprint for creating these videos, games, songs, just for them to be removed?

    25. „media companies“. Sorry but I don’t consider an AI slop company, a media company. These companies make money by creating 1000 channels of useless slop. Delete them all.

    26. Honestly surprised it’s taken this long. YouTube has become flooded with slop and it’s generated so quickly that it’s everywhere.

With no barriers slop channels were turning up everywhere. It’s not good for YouTube’s content and is turning people away, and eventually advertisers follow.

    27. I don’t know how many times I am looking up a video for the best way to set up a piece of tech and it’s just an ai voice over someone else’s video.

    28. Came across some AI slop vids, they even use a generated avatar of a person sometimes to try and look authentic while AI voice-overing some info stuff.

    29. I find comfort in screw ups when they are doing voiceovers now, there is so much AI that I just get angry when I hear the AI voiceovers and turn it off.

Keep the mistakes in, just so we know its human.

    30. If your „production stack“ looks like AI slop to AI bots, then you probably are a coordinated slop factory. Something something walks like a duck quacks like a duck…

    31. It is wild that YouTube, of all companies, is taking a stand against AI. At least for now. I would have thought they would gladly jump on the AI bandwagon if they could make a bit of money out of it.

    32. Oh thank you.

Calling the slop farms „Youtube’s biggest creators“ is along the same lines as calling DJt the President that has done the most for America or calling me the world’s best acrobat, which is to say an obvious fucking lie.

    33. Hope this kills the AI history channels. I was looking for some history docs to help me sleep and EVERYTHING the search turned up was AI. Aside from just not being willing to consume slop in general, even to go to sleep, I’m certainly not willing to take in history that way.

    34. Berry_Bubbaloo on

Everyday my mom sends me an animal video or a product video that I have to say “it’s AI!” I feel bad because she doesn’t know but I am trying to teach her so she won’t fall for anything bad.

No idea how this can be stopped, it’s concerning

    35. Crazy how ai still struggles with currency, real people don’t say something costs 2 dollars million

    36. They are trying to purge a lot of the slop in order to ease the hatred towards it.

    37. I dunno, that’s nice and I hope YouTube does stand against and remove AI slop, but I report channels all the time that are clearly AI and they don’t get taken down. They’re usually insanely obvious, the voiceovers mispronounce words that no human would ever get wrong, and the timing of how they say things is again completely wrong in a way that even people for whom English isn’t their first language wouldn’t speak.

    38. Obstacle-Man on

Has anyone started repost channels for the successful AI slop? You can’t copyright something made by AI out of a prompt.

    39. So you mean there’s going to be fewer badly done clips where a monotone narrator explains a movie poorly???
