    1. And no one is gonna do anything about it because Jimothy has more of a spine than Congress.

    2. FantasticBicycle37 on

There’s no way he’s still alive. Impose can-only-serve-if-alive limits

    3. At the end of the day… voters chose to elect him knowing his age and general health. 83% of voters in the primary and 58% in the general election.

    4. Until Democrats start playing by the same rules that Republlicans do none of this really matters. Beshear should just appoint someone. Its what Republicans would do. Republicans would not be waiting for confirmation that McConnell is dead to appoint a replacement. They’d make up some new precedent and then completely ignore that precedent in the future. Stop letting them dictate the rules.

      „Work until you die“

This rhetoric is insane. No wonder they expect people to be wage slaves, they are brainwashed wage slaves themselves.

    6. Mandatory retirement at 72. With all the people already older than that, it’ll have to be phased in somehow. Maybe roll a 1d4 for each one and that is how many years until they must retire.

    7. Alwaystired254 on

Yep, anyone under 70 can’t get elected anyway, America loves the elderly

    8. „Mitch McConnell’s absence from the US Senate reignites debate about age limits“ At the very least, it ought to be igniting debate about why nobody but Congress gets medical care like that.

    9. Affectionate_Past_39 on

We have a minimum age to be President, there should be a maximum age of service

Anyone arguing otherwise, while making some decent points, is not terribly serious

He’s dead. We all know he’s dead. Media gonna pretend that we all have questions. We don’t. He’s dead.

    11. >debate about age limits

Are we now debating whether dead people can hang onto their seat?

    12. I want to know who is going to be rolled when we find out that hospital photo is fake

    13. Snapingbolts on

Chuck Grassley is 92. 92 fucking years old. He was 6 years old when WW2 started. He is still in office

    14. purplebrown_updown on

Call their fucking bluff Beshear. God. This is why people hate Congress and politics. Moves so slow and adheres to these antiquated notions of normalcy and decor.

    15. mangoboi440 on

I think we need to at the very least install a “must be alive” policy

    16. The Average age in the house directly after founding was 44 and average age in the senate was 43 . The oldest member of the house was 50 and the youngest was 28, In the senate the oldest person was 61 and the youngest was 34. They never envisioned a “career politician” they expected elected officials to serve for a time and retire back to private life, their institutions have been perverted (pun intended) into a mockery of what they envisioned

    17. Stillwater215 on

I can’t believe that we got one photo that would barely count as “proof of life” in a hostage situation, and basically all of the media has decided that it means he’s clearly alive and well.

    18. CivicDutyCalls on

      It’s not about age.

If we had better elections (e.g. Ranked Choice and Approval or Mixed Member districts) it would be much easier for someone new to replace him.

Bernie Sanders is the same age as Mitch McConnell and he’s showing no signs of slowing down that im aware of. I don’t want to get rid of good people. I want to make it easier to get rid of bad ones.

Mitch is still in office because our current election system makes it really risky to select his replacement. But voting systems that allow you to select multiple allowances you to vote you conscience AND also vote to hedge.

Why are we skipping over dead or alive and musing about term limits? I’m sure we all agree that anyone’s term ends when they are dead.

Imagine any administration along with their clowns and lackeys behaving they way they do and we continue to tolerate it.

    20. At the moment I don’t care about his age.

I care that he’s probably dead.

    21. sweet_jackknife on

Also keeping a dead person as a sitting senator seems not right, call me crazy

    22. Uncle_Tickle_Monster on

People can stop wasting their time talking about it because it’s not gonna happen without a constitutional amendment. And in today’s political climate, you couldn’t get a constitutional amendment passed saying the sky was blue.

    23. ProudPainting6850 on

Why is this so hard? Get these fuckin BOOMERS the fuck OUT of power! As a whole, they’re ruining everything and trying to take all the power and money into the goddamn grave!

    24. CyberSmith31337 on

      Simplest precedent ever:

You cannot work in the FAA after 55 because you are deemed too risky to the public for the role. Just roll out the same standard for government officials. A simple blanket rollout, no exceptions or waivers.

    25. wiithepiiple on

Never going to happen since the main barrier to the “Old Fucks Shouldn’t Be in Congress” bill is the old fucks in Congress.

    26. Brokebrokebroke5 on

No place in corporate America is going to hire an 84 year old. These people don’t need to work, they are wealthy and could have retired years ago. They just can’t give up the power. Chuck Grassley is fucking 92 years old. Get a hobby and a life!

    27. MollyBee_55 on

I am confused. Dead people voting is a major problem, but dead people holding Senate seats is acceptable?
That just sounds illegal, doesn’t it?

    28. Then_Journalist_317 on

We don’t need age limits–just limits on brain dead people running our government (that applies to both Mitch and Donald).

    29. Democrats either need to grow a spine or just hand over the country at this point.

There’s nothing they can do to find out if he’s alive or not?

What a bunch of sad ass losers. So something already.

    30. Upset_Yellow4631 on

There’s no fucking debate, anyone over 65 should have no say in how our country is run

    31. LiffeyDodge on

why is there even a debate? if you are at the federal retirement age you need to quit. if it’s acceptable for air traffic control it should be good enough for congress.

    32. Negative_Gravitas on

Call ne crazy, but I say that once you are dead, you’re *definitely* too old to serve.

    33. Iron_Sight_Mark on

Forget about age limits; right now we need to focus on not letting actual corpses hold a senate seat.
