Don’t forget the fact they haven’t built water infrastructure, whilst simultaneously increasing the population by millions as a deliberate act of policy.

Got to find the money for shareholders dividends and directors bonuses. Hardly surprising that unimportant things like leaks take a back seat.

As I’ve said numerous times already, I think the best fix for „Broken Britain“ is a focus on socialist-ish STEM. We need more actual solutions, and less greedy fuckery.
I live in a Thames Water area, I see so many leaking mains stopcocks in my area and it takes them months to do anything about it.
The water companies will continue to cause problems and expense until dealt with.
It’s too expensive can’t be an excuse when the current setup is too expensive.
Hasn’t changed in 20 years. Take them all into public ownership.
And they can’t fix them without denying all the poor starving bigwigs their six figure bonuses.
Fine these leeches out of existence and put all the water companys into public ownership. the experiment failed. and next the trains and the post office. they are public services they are not supposed to be profit machines. who actually gives a crap about their share holders. most are saudi owned anyway
To be fair, imagine almost every road in the country has a water pipe under it, and any one of them can be leaking at any point along its length. You can work out roughly which stretch of pipe is leaking from the difference in meters on either side, but now are you going to dig up 300m of road to find it?
I have a huge bill and a water meter. I’ll use what I want thanks.
The leaking water maybe the only thing thats keeping watercourses moist!
They can afford to pay massive salaries and bonuses but can’t fix leaks. No massive salaries or bonuses until all leaks sorted.
Don’t forget the low flow flush systems, that initially save water but often leak.
Marvelous , allow months of rain to piss out of the system due to poor maintenance, then as soon as there is a bit of sun drop the pressure in people’s homes and ban us from using hoses , all the while cranking up the cost of water bills whilst making bumper profits and paying bosses a mint .

There’s a leak in the road a few doors down from me, it’s been reported by myself and at least 5 other neighbours that I’ve talked to, it’s been there for weeks progressively getting worse and worse, we keep reporting that it’s getting worse, it’s now a steady stream of water going down the road, they still haven’t even sent anyone out to check on it never mind even think about fixing it.
But nah the problem is people taking too long showers and watering their grass or washing their cars.
Is anyone seriously acknowledging a hosepipe ban? They’ve taken the piss for decades, I’ve half a mind to just leave taps running from now on. Fuck em.
Privatise the water supply and this is what you get. Under investment, bosses creaming off the top and the end result being a network that has been neglected over decades, leaking, needs urgent updates and more reservoirs developing. It’s absolutely criminal that they have been allowed to do this for so long and the government(s) has done very little about it.
I got an advert from Yorkshire Water telling me to wear my clothes twice before I wash them.
Seemed like bad optics, to say the least.
Metered water was always a con. If water had any value to the water companies they wouldn’t leak half of it away. The real cost has always been the infrastructure, that’s why they don’t repair it and instead let it all leak out. Pricing should be based on infrastructure usage. Many people using the same piping is keeper than one household with miles of pipes just for themselves. But guess who has a big house in the country, and who gets to pay for the upkeep of the infrastructure it needs.

So United Utilities are issuing a hosepipe ban from August 5th.
Turns out that over the last year, they’ve wasted, through not fixing leaks, 464 megalitres of water.
Just to put that into context, Dubai has just constructed a reservoir that contains 454 megalitres of water.
1 megalitre of water is 1000 cubic metets of water, or 5000 baths of water, that’s a shit load of water wasted, and the boss is on £2.3m a year.
It’s just another symptom of the wider problem with this country. No one in charge is capable of strategic long term thinking.
Also, there will always be some degree of leaks. Water is delivered by a pressurised system. It’s pretty much impossible to eradicate leaks entirely
And this is part of why I’m anti-hosepipe bans, shorter showers etc.
We have PLENTY of rain in this country, we just don’t have enough reservoirs. It’s not acceptable for the government to tell citizens not to use water whilst themselves not building more reservoirs. The way I see it, it’s just a way for the government to shirk its responsibility, and the only way they’ll do what they actually have to do is if we actually run out of water
It’s fine though, Anglian water leak something like 68 billion litres of water a year… but they say not to worry because they put in 1.2 billion litres a day so it’s fair.
It’s almost as if the entire concept of a privatised water system is a really, really stupid idea.
And we fkrs pay for it…..we have a good capitalist system in this country…..do we not
