So, the solution is either to built a lot of huge stadiums in Oceania and minor CELAC countries, or change the eligibility rules. I really can’t predict which it will be!

FIFA should build us a new stadium in Wellington, current one is cursed and we need a new one 😂.

Could Australia potentially go back to being an Oceanian team and they alongside maybe New Zealand could host it?
MaddingtonBear on
Having Spain host twice before returning to the UK is certainly a choice. Or is there some weird FIFA/FA thing going on where FIFA won’t allow a bid solely from England/Wales, but the FA is too stubborn to allow Scotland to join?

This is factually wrong. While FIFA has chosen to adapt a rotation policy in the past. It is not a FIFA rule. Until FIFA decides otherwise, the only confederation banned from hosting the 2038 World Cup is Asia. Because the FIFA Statutes states that no confederation can be awarded the World Cup two times in a row.

You already know they probably set it up this way so they have the freedom to choose the most corrupt country that is willing to line their pockets.
A fun choice would be a coalition of Caribbean nations.
IMO it will probably go to England, Australia, China, or somewhere in South America.

I believe this rotation rule will change moving forward, as we’re going to see more and more shared bids – often even across different confederations.
I think they were already going to do that to allow Saudi Arabia (AFC) to bid for 2030 alongside Egypt (CAF) and Greece (UEFA), only 8 years after Qatar (also AFC) hosted in 2022.
The bid died pretty early for various reasons, with Saudi Arabia then running unopposed for 2034 – but just the fact that their bid was up for consideration shows that the rotation “rule” might not be super strict (or at least, not for every country…)
One cycle stand down period sounds fair to me. I don’t see why entirely different countries in UEFA, CONMEBOL, or CAF shouldn’t be able to host for such a long time after the 2030 edition.

FIFA will probably just change the rules to let Saudi Arabia host it, and everyone will act shocked. Or maybe they’ll build one stadium in Wellington and call it a day, no in between 😂.

Are they really going to call 3 matches in South America as „hosting a World Cup“?

3 matches in South America in 2030 shouldn’t count for a ban in 2038.
It will probably be something like Argentina-Chile.

I feel like overlooking the 2030 one-offs makes the most sense? They aren’t hosting the tournament

CONMEBOL will only host 3 matches in 2030 as commemorative centenary celebration. It would be unfair to claim that it actually host when the actual hosts are members of UEFA and CAF.

And this is what expanding the amount of teams does, now only a select few countries are able to self host

These rules are stupid. South America should not be ineligible because of two games. Equally, Europe should become eligible again after one tournament away. It is the most advanced, capable and obsessive continent when it comes to football.

It’ll be Conmebol, that 1 match in 2030 doesn’t disqualify them.

The bonus games in South America next WC just should not count as hosting, it makes no sense and would resolve the whole issue anyway.

Barring Conmebol and CAF for hosting a couple of matches each in 2030 is ridiculous, and obviously not the intent of the rule. It should be in one of them.

It’s ridiculous how long it’s been since it’s been in the UK, UK is among the best positioned in the world to hold it and literally invented the sport. US has had 2 world cups since UK’s last, same for Germany, Mexico has had 3.
London alone could actually host it which would be a crazy experience although I doubt it will ever happen.
LogicalMuscle on
It will be in the US and New Zealand (and maybe Fiji)

Should change the rules so that continents are split into regions. Then a host continent is blocked from hosting the next World Cup, but then the one after that only the region is blocked. So if all of Europe is blocked hosting 2034, only Southern Europe or whatever would be blocked in 2038.
Funny-face-1613 on
Thats what happens when you host 2030 on 3 continents only to have noone challenge Saudi Arabia for 2034. Corrupt Fifa shit always ends like this.
