She had like four songs everyone knew one summer – I don’t know if flop is the right word

That’s it?! That’s the article?! Damn, I wanna be a staff writer for Atlantic

Short-ass article, wtf? Said almost nothing, certainly didn’t explain „How she became pop cultures great flop“.
Pop stars have short careers on average, Lizzo was far from a one-hit wonder though. She had some controversy that hurt her career and pop has moved away from her in general, nothing monumental about that
Imcrappinyounegative on
I saw her this past February at the Blue Note in LA and thought she was fabulous. I believe she sold out all 4 shows.

Eh, mor like she’s someone that defied industry standards and broke the mold
I wouldn’t call her a flop but I know people want her to
Tim_Drake on
Lizzo was an act of the times. She based her schtick on the 2019-2021 push for acceptance and equality, mixed with anti all the other far right rhetoric. Once she was exposed it call came crashing down. There is no coming back from that.
Not so much a flop, but a grifter like so many other “entertainers” these days.

Industry plant that never took root?
She got the awards and stuff but none of it seemed organic. She was shoehorned into everything like James Corden.

The writer must have been let go from The Atlantic while he was writing the article.

She was just a phase. She got lucky with a few hits and now she’s irrelevant. People got mad at her for how she treated people and no promotion was done for her new album it seemed. She can fade away into the darkness now and probably won’t be remembered in a few years.

It’s the assault allegations. Don’t need a whole article to identify the cause.

Sexual assault and being a shitty boss.

Somebody should be writing articles instead about how mad we should be about the desertion of Lizzo during a time when people like Chris Brown continue to be supported

I really like her music. I know her employees said she did some boundary- crossing behavior. Did Lizzo admit to it?

Didn’t she essentially blacklist herself but assaulting a bunch of people and just being a major asshole in general?
That might have something to do with it.

Nobody cares. I wouldn’t call it flopping. People no longer care because of the actions she’s done and things she’s said. She had a few good hits and that was that.
Being a part of Kevin Hart roast was definitely *a choice*.

I saw her in 2014 when she opened up for Macaulay Culkin’s band The Pizza Underground and Har Mar Superstar. I always thought it was cool that I saw her for $18. It’s all just disappointing now.

She didn’t flop. Most pop stars are going to fade sooner rather than later
NerdCocktail on
Why is her PR machine leaning into this flop storyline? It’s such a bizarre take. If Lizzo is making her best music, she should do some actual performances instead of just whining about radio. I haven’t heard one person say any of the new music is good. Do Colors, perform in the subway, or try apologizing for being a terrible boss and say you’re in coaching.
daledaleedaleee on
I’ll forever be surprised she blew up like she did. I saw Har Mar Superstar in my local 100 capacity venue in the UK around 2012 and Lizzo was his backing singer. She also operated the merch booth; sold me a t-shirt and charmed me into buying a copy of *Lizzobangers*.

There’s something that feels deeply horrible about referring to a person as a flop. Have we gone that far that not only must art be commodified, but also the artist themselves? (I know the answer is yes but I find it deeply saddening and upsetting, any moral society would not behave like this)

Lizzo is amazing.

Part of it was her hypocrisy on body positivity. She got big girls hyped and then as soon as she could got skinny. She lost a large part of her base with that.
Not saying she shouldn’t have or it was bad. For health reasons alone that was good. Just saying when she came out it was all about „I love being big“

She just played a sold out crowd with the National Symphony Orchestra. I think she’s probably fine.
