This farce was such an obvious scam and it’s the biggest of many failures from the previous administration.
Canadian Institute of Osteopathic Therapy (CIOT). Oh excuse me, this is bullshit. They know exactly what they’re doing applying to these so called post secondary programs.
So a whole lot of pseudo science bs program. Canada doesn’t owe you anything. It was YOUR choice to come as an international student, NOBODY forced you. Being an international student means you’re expected to leave and bring back what you have learn to your home country.

Kaur is among a growing number of international graduates who say they have unexpectedly been denied post-graduation work permits after completing programs ***they believed qualified*** under federal immigration rules.
Sounds like they got scammed by false promises from immigration lawyers.
Before a student visa approval, you are literally asked to write a letter explaining why you want to study in Canada and how you would use that education for your goals back home. Which is why many are asked to show proof that you have something to go back to in your home country. It’s never a guarantee that you stay in Canada.
She said it in her own words „…after being told she would be eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) once she finished her studies.“ Eligible doesn’t mean approved; it means you will be considered. There was a possibility right from the start that she wasn’t going to be approved, thus she should have had a plan B. I am getting tired of this entire subject. They aren’t entitled to work here, they aren’t citizens, they should have no right what-so-ever to complain or try to litigate themselves into staying. If they were given any guarantee by whatever con-job company they went through to get here, then take that company to court.

We shouldn’t have PGWP for anything outside of healthcare.
They came in with the intention of exploiting the Canadian system. The loophole was patched.

Things change. Sometimes we need more immigrants, sometimes not. Right now, we don’t except for the normal specialty professions

Is it not true that a temporary resident can be asked to leave the country at any time.
Nothing is guaranteed; not school, not work permits, not PR.
It’s a really bad time to be a temporary resident.
Canada is cleaning house of them in order placate the public that’s irked about immigration.
It’s make it more palatable to accept that the numbers of PR’s that we bring in have barely fallen in numbers.
Take your education, and now go improve the country you came from. That’s the promise.

I feel bad for these students. The diploma mills and also regular universities completly played the ‚backdoor to citizenship‘ card and charged them a fortune. I agree with shutting this down and sending them home but students wanting a better life aren’t the villians here.
They still haven’t figured out that their diploma mill education is completely worthless?? Lol

I studied overseas, was a great time while I was there, learned a lot, left when I finished schooling. That’s what’s supposed to happen.
As a graduate of a prestigious international business school I’m sure large companies back home will battle to secure these students to fill management positions and lead their companies ? 🙂

People who fall for scams typically indeed do believe in the false futures that the scammers sell them. Her, and all these students anger should be directed at scammers, not the country the scammers incorporated into their schemes.

I don’t understand what does it have to do with anything this article is about. Yes, you need to pay for education, and it’s always a higher fee for non citizens.
And to the point, I understand the disappointment but immigration rules can change without any warning, keep in mind no country owes anyone a citizenship or residency, Canada included.
The incompetence of the federal government never ceases to amaze me. How the fuck were PGWPs not restricted to ~50 or so Universities in Canada.
Why the fuck was it ever possible to get a PGWP after attending Singh Hortons University.

Easy solution, go to grad school back home. The visa was to study, not to stay. Also, CIOT’s business program is part of Portage College’s immigration money printing machine and their degrees aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.
Finished your study but can’t find work due to no visa? Time to head back or claim refugee status 😂
I’m very curious as to why so many think that just because you „study“ here, that it means you’re entitled to citizenship or to stay past your studies.
What about the young Canadians who are turning to drugs and alcohol because they cannot find work?
They have a future in their countries of origin. They should have an advantage there because they were educated in Canada.

It kind of floors me that international students actively attending school could look up course content but not the discretionary nature of the Canadian immigration system. These sob stories aren’t helping their case. They substantiate the feelings that these were entitled people looking to run a grift.
Good. You are not owed a permanent life in Canada just because you studied here. Go home, or somewhere else and enjoy your degree. The madness had to end sometime.
They lied on their student visa application. The purpose of the student visa is immigration, not studying.
I feel very numbed by these constant stories and protests. I do feel bad for people, but it also feels like all our country has focused on, talked about, and invested in post Covid is immigration.
And I’ve never seen anything like this here before. This idea that temporary students and workers should get to stay because they studied or worked here. I’ve never heard of anything like it here or anywhere for that matter. People study and work abroad all over the world. At no point does this give you a right to be a citizen.
Most of them simply picked any random course that seemed easiest to get into, studies were never a concern, it was just a bridge used to get a residency here.
You come, you study, you go home. What’s the limbo part?
Being a student in Canada doesn’t give people a free pass for citizenship. Those days are over.
