Amid [warnings](https://www.commondreams.org/news/guterres-killer-robots) from experts and political leaders about “killer robots,” a Chinese robotics company on Thursday hosted an unprecedented combat tournament in which one humanoid robot decapitated another.

The fight featuring the decapitation—footage of which quickly circulated online—was part of the opening night of the Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend (URKL) competition in Shenzhen, organized by the company EngineAI, which developed the humanoid.

Every new technology that mankind adopts will either be sexualized, weaponized, or both.

    3. This title is so stupid. The head just fell down because of all the moving and kicks

We’ve been watching robots fight for a while. I don’t know if these were controlled by a person or were fully or semi autonomous but robot wars has been out for a long time. Although theyre controlled by a human with controllers, or, at least they used to be controlled fully by humans. Scary stuff.

    5. Lots of scripted movements, but zero sensor capability. Fully autonomous sumo bits are way scarier with how fast they turn and track.

Finally democratized hyper violent combat sports. Nerds will have their day at the octagon.

The early stages of Real Steal. Can’t wait for these to get better so we can have actually cool robots fighting in arenas

Please do not build the eternal torment machine.

      FFS they’re even calling it a T800.

    9. The „one brutal kick“ detail is wild because it shows how fragile these prototypes still are – we’re not watching Terminator, we’re watching million-dollar toys get bodyslammed for entertainment. The decapitation headline sells fear but the reality is just clumsy engineering in a cage. Real concern isn’t the robots winning, it’s what happens when they actually work.

    10. Robot kept going. Smart move to incorporate Praying Mantis features in the design!
