I work in the financial services sector. Lloyds have a reputation for being a less than pleasant employer.

I really don’t understand what the GDPR legitimate interest is here? It’s not consent, and driving down your employees pay is not a legitimate interest.

This is ridiculously corrupt considering that employees need to have a Lloyds bank account.
Do they all do this? This is the push I need to close my Halifax account tbh
Edit: here’s more recent news (Feb 2026)
>During the same event, the Lloyds chief made clear to staff that he **stood by the approach taken by the bank.**
>Lloyds said there is no formal investigation into the use of staff account data, but that bosses were reflecting on the tactics ahead of next year’s pay talks.
Fuck them. Closing my account now.

Is this not old news? They were caught doing this before or is this more details?

I used to work for these cunts and it actually felt like I was working for the biggest crooks going.
Very grateful I used to credit my own bank account with £20 here and there when I was skint. Thanks fucko’s.

Close the bank. Everyone involved needs to go to jail, possibly lose the key, and the shareholders lose everything.
If a bank is willing to do this, they’re a clear and present national security threat.

This kinda feels like it would break some form of data protection law no?
Who’d want to even still work there if they have management willing to spy on your accounts like this?

The thing I do not understand for all these big businesses investigations, Bank/Organization X did Y, paid a fine or not etc. The organization never did anything, the individuals did including the people who signed on it. Why those are not punished and the bank is punished instead, i.e. again the employees who were wronged in the first place are getting punished when the bank pays those fines.
And btw this is huge customer data bridge and data misuse, no matter what they are saying about „anonymized data“, how did they select those accounts in the first place? By identifying who is working in the bank and cross referencing their accounts with their names.
