The fact that they can even consider this just goes to show that government really has no respect for the imperial family at all. The emperor’s only child can’t inherit? We’re going to force the family to adopt someone of our choosing? Force the emperor’s daughter to marry them?

      It’s a shame we don’t have lese-majeste laws anymore.

This is a tough topic for me. The Japanese monarchy isn’t necessarily needed, but the people at the top seem (as far as monarchs go) pretty good. I hope they stop goofing around and let the daughter become the Empress

    7. I see these headlines, but I see polls that overwhelmingly show people support it?

    8. Takeichi is just a puppet for nippon kaigi. She has no actual policy agenda of her own.

Whatever they like to claim about its lineage, Japan has a long tradition of bureaucrats installing their favorite emperor (sadly for them, it is no longer socially acceptable for children to ascend the throne).

A prime minister’s job is a million times more challenging and impactful than that of an emperor, so if a woman is not up to the task of being emperor, is it then not hypocrisy to have a female prime minister?

    11. She would only accept Ivanka Trump as empress, so she can dance around Donald closer and more often. A Japanese empress would be to much of a concurrence in attention.

Taro Aso, that old turd and his family should be gone along the whole old boys club.
