The only person who knows why is Zelensky, a wartime president who has been there since day one. Federov has been there since January.
Maybe Federov has done everything he can do and the war is moving into a new phase?
Maybe he was causing too much friction?
Maybe he likes unicorns and Zelensky prefers centaurs?
The fact is, I don’t know and Zelensky isn’t obliged to tell me shit. Same goes for all the armchair generals posting here.
This is a shameful development, a major mistake by Zelensky and a win for the corrupt military elite

What I am reading that he has to go, because the whole cabinet had to go due to change of prime minister.
Horrible.
Not good. He saw overcharge issues in the defense procurement and sought to end it. THAT is why he was fired. NOT GOOD Ukraine.

Has stepped down, more like kicked out by Zelenskyy who s doing Syrsky’s and the corruptions bidding, i spit on this decision and everyone that made it happen
Zelensky should have removed Syrski not Federov
Ukraine was turning the page on corruption and then Syrski intervened. Zelenskyy should have known better, and have chosen to fire Syrski. How will the EU react to Ukraine admittance into the EU, after this? This could be a significant change to Ukraine’s potential outlook.
I am an outsider, but I have seen far more positive comments on Federov and very few on Syrski.
We will see how the Ukrainian people and soldiers react after this announcement.

Extremely disappointing news from Ukraine, the guy seemed like he was doing a great job with the innovations and pushing past the Soviet shit… What is Ukraine doing man.
I hope he gets a new position better befitting his style. You need this kind of quality in leadership.

Isn’t he the guy who made the UA military so advanced that we in the West started talking of NEEDING UA to join NATO after the war so they can help modernize our militaries aswell?
Stepping down from the Defense Ministry mid-war is a heavy move, and the framing here matters. Fedorov was the tech guy, the one who pushed drones, AI targeting, and the Army of Drones project when Ukraine’s military was still figuring out how to scale that stuff.
What stands out to me is the Gripen procurement. That deal goes beyond one cabinet shuffle because it locks in a long term air power pipeline that outlasts whoever sits in the chair. Pushing that through while managing domestic weapons programs is real work, and I’d want to know who replaces him before assuming this is a setback. Zelensky rotates people sometimes for governance reasons, sometimes because external allies want a reset, and the distinction isn’t obvious from the outside. The danger is momentum loss on procurement and tech integration, since those chains break fast when leadership changes mid-conflict.
A truly idiotic decision to let him go.
This is a catastrophy for Ukraine!!
