Kneip is nothing special. It’s a basic, simple and cheap bread.
this bread is an insult
Kneip is the simplest bread. I imagine its not easy to get bread that is whole weat and freshly made each day, i dont know if you have that in the grocery shops in the U.S, but many countries only offer sliced toast bread thats more like cake buns. Try to buy the correct flour and make the bread yourself. that should be managable.
Im Norwegian and I’ve lived in the US for years. Still haven’t been able to find anything to rival fresh „kneip“.
Make it yourself. I bet the ones you find in the store has an ingredient list that is far to long for bread.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel there, this is the cheapest shittiest bread ever, mass produced in a factory!
[Norwegian Kneipp bread recipe ](https://sailingselkie.no/norwegian-kneipp-bread-recipe.html)(I haven’t tested it personally.)
Going to a bakery or making it yourself is the only way to get decent bread in the US. Everything you find in regular grocery stores is made to be as shelf stable as possible, and has a ton of sugar in it.
(That being said, kneipp isn’t exactly something to write home about.)
I haven’t checked US grocery stores, but in the UK and New Zealand cheap bread is usually „quick bread“ which is made in a way closer to cake. Anything made with actual yeast is seen as a premium product. Unless you want to pay lots of money for a basic loaf you will need to learn to make it yourself. The good news is that it’s actually pretty easy.
Why are people here shitting on kneippbrød? It’s extremely simple and cheap, sure, but it has carried the breakfast table of many homes in generations and I’ve never met someone who actively dislike the taste or texture of it. Nor is it particularly unhealthy or loaded with carbs if that matters to someone.
It does it job as bread admirably and it is affordable as fuck. It’s a great bread, in my opinion.
Because kneippbrød in Norway is made from wheat flour and yeast. Bread in the US, as far as I can tell, is made from high fructose corn syrup and food coloring.
(I live in Florida now, but I grew up with kneippbrød, and I miss it too.)
You could try asking on r/Breadit, lots of bread aficionados over there that might know where you could buy a similar bread, or if not give you tips on how to bake it yourself with ingredients available in the US.
