Very good and accurate article. My Japanese girlfriend who worked years as a hostess in Tokyo said all she had to say is sugoi to these older guys to make them feel still important
Of course some guys went there over extended time and spent a huge total amount in the hope of getting to sleep with the woman, but most women working there have already boyfriends and even husbands and kids but will hide this fact.
You can literally make up a country, say that you come from Belgisland or whatever and she will say that she loves that country and her dream was always to marry someone from there etc..
How sad.
But people pay for these things in hope of getting sex the most paid hostess said so herself

Once only did I go into a girls bar. My friends and I were really drunk and we thought it was funny. We were in there for only 2 hours, but somehow racked up a bill of 20k yen per person. Ranks as of one the stupidest things I‘ve done while drunk.

I’ve noticed many スナック today are starting to look just like キャバクラ even including booth seating, women sitting next to customers, touching, dim lights, 同伴, アフター, and required LINE contact with customers. I wonder how long until the Japanese government cracks down on these スナック for violating the terms of their business licenses?

Men in Japan have lost all dignity. These guys spending $100k are matried men with wife and children at home. Hostess clubs are,much like strip clubs in the US, the canary in the coal mine for a crumbling economy because they’re soo tapped into it all.
So dystopian, im fascinated and sad at the same time.
