Für jeden, der sich für polnische Kultur oder polnische Produktionen interessiert, ist Ranczo wahrscheinlich ein bekannter Name. Es ist eines der erfolgreichsten und beliebtesten Comedy-Dramen in der Geschichte des polnischen Fernsehens (2006–2016) und erhält mit einer derzeit in Produktion befindlichen Miniserie mit sechs Folgen endlich einen würdigen Abschluss (Premiere voraussichtlich im Herbst 2026).
Die Show erzählt die Geschichte von Lucy, einer polnisch-amerikanischen Frau, die ein Haus in einem kleinen Dorf erbt und langsam Teil der Gemeinschaft wird. Sie beschäftigt sich mit der lokalen Politik, der Dynamik zwischen Priester und Bürgermeister, Generationsunterschieden und persönlichem Wachstum, alles mit einem warmen, charakterorientierten Sinn für Humor.
In Polen war es ein Riesenerfolg und es gab sogar eine estnische Adaption (Naabriplika), die über 130 Episoden lief.
Jetzt, da die ursprüngliche Geschichte zu Ende geht, habe ich nachgedacht:
Wäre es für polnische Produzenten sinnvoll, die Formatrechte international zu verkaufen – zum Beispiel nach Italien oder Frankreich –, damit sie ihre eigenen lokalisierten Versionen erstellen könnten?
Die Grundvoraussetzung (ein Außenstehender integriert sich in eine eng verbundene ländliche Gemeinschaft und verändert sie, während er selbst verändert wird) wirkt ziemlich universell, aber viele Aspekte sind sehr polnisch.
In Italien ließe sich der dörfliche Kontext + die Perspektive Priester/Bürgermeister/Lokalpolitik sehr gut übersetzen.
In Frankreich könnte auch eine provinzielle Version funktionieren, die sich mit dem ländlichen Leben und modernen sozialen Fragen befasst.
Was denken Sie?
Sehen Sie, dass Ranczo Potenzial als internationales Format hat, oder ist es zu stark mit der polnischen Kultur verknüpft? Was müsste sich bei einer italienischen oder französischen Adaption am meisten ändern? Würden Sie sich so etwas ansehen?

Well between 2013-2018 there was Estonian version that lasted 11 seasons and 131 episodes.
Modernization is a major theme of the series. The kids are learning English, Hadziukova starts a goat farm, Solejukova mass-produces pierogi and goes off to study philosophy, the mayor’s wife starts working, the teacher launches a radio station and a newspaper, and so on. It’s hard to adapt such storylines to Western standards because that happened there years ago, and „Ranczo“ aired together with those changes in our country.
It’s not just a cultural issue; as you say, it would be easy to weave in a storyline about rivalry between a priest and a mayor in a place like Italy, but the atmosphere of the village itself and the overall picture would be radically different.
Italian Rancho is basically Don Camillo movies. Technically French to, as that was Italian and French coproduction.
Well, there is *Land of Women -* introduce more unique characters and develop their own stories and you have *Ranczo* in Spain. Every country has some kind of stereotypical slow life countryside waiting to be explored and used in the script.
Having just watched „La vita va cosi“, I could see a version set in Sardinia in the 90s
Would someone even need to buy the rights to copy the general format? „Twin films“ are already a thing and a lot of them are a lot more on the nose than someone just vaguely copying the idea of someone inheriting property and moving to their family’s origin country.

The format is already available in different forms in other countries.
The classic „american-x combo returns to the village from zadupie“, comedy drama with cultural elements, changes and challenges.
Romania has „Las Fierbinți“ in which the premise is very similar to rancho but the outcome pretty different cos countries are very different culturally.
I guess Louis La Brocante match a bit ranczo for the french
I consider it the Pan Tadeusz of modernity – describing how life goes on in the village, while preaching positive change and telling a good story in the meanwhile.
I’ve had more thoughts about it back in the day but i’ve forgotten most of it – either way, if anyone shares my sentiment, and can get into the weeds, there may be a great video essay topic in my comparision.
I think that from the sounds of it, this format would/could also serve as a great tool for migrant integration in Europe. A big issue strong the migrant flood is that many people come from the zadupie but out in the old lands if Mesopotamia etc. People who grow up only knowing their local tribe of people and their way of thinking.
I think it could be adapted pretty good to Romanian market
