Despite the defeat, we did well in this world cup. Argentina had to work hard, it wasn’t some 7:0 victory for them and who knows what would have happened without the red card from Embolo. Same if we could have get to the penalty phase, maybe we’d have won there, but… it is what it is.
We lost against the world champion, not some 3rd league amateur team. It’s just not the same, like Messi alone as a player is so good that he’s sometimes able to just dribble around multiple players and score a goal on his own, i mean, Argentina isn’t some bad team that you could casually defeat.

That flop by Embolo cost us the game and the tournament. It was a really bad act and I honestly think he needs to face some kind of repercussions by the Swiss team (pay cut, or termination) for his repeated unsportsmanlike conduct throughout this tournament. Other players were also guilty of aggressive behaviour and flops, but he seemed to take the cake for that one.
I understand that some level of exaggeration is part of the sport, but I have seen way too much reliance on it by the Swiss team, and it has also cost us goals in the past (players staying on the ground instead of getting back up and defending)
Infantina made it to the quarterfinals only because of FIFA. Ofc the fairytale didn’t happen, even if we led 2:0, there would be something else.
I understand the frustration that the VAR was used to make such an important decision.
But that dive from Embolo wasn’t his smartest decision. Destroyed the team’s moral. And I can’t blame the VAR or referee for that. Had he played fair and with integrity, this wouldn’t have happened.
Props to the team for holding out so long against the titleholders though.
Personally, I knew that Manzambi’s injury would turn out to be fatal in the long run (considering the hard time they had against Columbia).
Now I just hope the team continues to improve and maybe, just maybe we could be the next Europe Cup champions.
Embolo had an underwhelming Worldcup, and had to end it in a disaster class way…. Feel bad for the rest of the team.
