Just get a soda stream and drink tapwater.
Just buy water in crates. Saves a ton of time at the bottle return machine. A crate with 12 empty bottles is scanned in a couple of seconds. See how long it takes you to feed 12 empty bottles individually into the machine.

I remember visiting my sister in Germany and – out of habit – crushing the pet bottle after pouring the last glass. Took me a second to realise why she was mildly infuriated.

Oh, I know that feel 😁 I used to buy tons of bottled water until I discovered a simple filter jug which just works for me.
Did you try to replace it with just one of those simple water filters if your tap water doesn’t taste good?
In my case, I just got Brita jug for like 15-20 eur or so from amazon, and the cartridges that I use – „BRITA Maxtra Pro All-in-1 Water Filter Cartridge“.
And this thing really works for me, for like more than 2 years I just drink filtered tap water – this filter removes unpleasant taste and it’s just really no different than cheapest bottled water I used buy from Rewe. Might depend on case by case basis, but I cannot emphasize how happy I am not having to deal with tons of bottles thanks to filter jug.

Why not buy crates of bottles from the Getränkemarkt? You have a car to transport them.
The stupidest thing aside needeing money for shoping cart, do you really need that in order to function…. there is plenty of countries that do not have either and all shoping cart are back to their places
