I’ll take studies not to quote to your wife in a tense moment for $5000, Alex.
Hasn’t it been shown that no one multi-tasks, they just perform serial processing at different levels of efficiency?
Great news! Now I can text and drive just as well as the gals!
But seriously multiple studies have shown that humans are notoriously bad at „multi-tasking“. People switch from task to task and some are quicker than others at that.
Nothing says someone doesn’t understand science more than:
“It’s official: Study says”
> the stereotype has persisted of women being far better at multi-tasking than men
This wasn’t an obvious stereotype I was aware of. If anything doesn’t it clash with the pay gap? How could someone hold both – that women are better at multitasking but should be paid less for the same job?
Not trying to start anything here, but is this truly a common stereotype? If so, in Western/US culture, and what age brackets?
Edit: Millennial, US, Male
My wife informed me that it’s fairly common
Look at people who do streaming while playing video games, they sure yap a lot regardless of gender.
I can do exactly one task at a time but it’s more related to ADHD than my gender
I would consider not being able to answer as being worse at multi tasking. Especially in group setting, most people really underestimate how useful talking (communicating) with people is.
Never heard this stereotype tbh
I would say age is a big factor. As I get older that gets much harder
Talkativeness is not indicative of ability to converse.
There’s a bit of an issue with the title as it misleads the reader about the actual conclusion. According to the study men can NOT multi-task as women. Men can handle physical multi-tasking as well as women but lack in the ability to handle physical and mental/conversational multi-tasking when combined.
I can’t even talk to someone else when I’m in deep focus. All that comes out is my inner dialogue,
Very interesting stidy. Although I feel like the conclusion kind of glosses over the argument that answering questions is a type of multitasking no? Being able to answer questions verbally/correctly while performing physical tasks just means you’re now involving language centers on top of whatever motor/executive circuits you were engaging before.
Isn’t the act of talking also a task in this situation?
