They kinda look tech-clueless
Heard both positive and negative views on this. What’s your take?
Keep in mind they want to pass this chat screening through while making law enforcement and politicians (the two classes most able to abuse their power) exempt from it.
This will install a backdoor to every end-to-end encrypted chat that the government, or any malicious party, can use to sell your data, see personal information you only wanted to share with people you trust, train an AI, and/or create a detailed profile of you through this screening. It is a privacy nightmare and sets a precedent for future fascist governments to abuse and shut down any and every opposition.
Just imagine the government said: “We’ll be installing cameras and microphones in everyone’s house – except for those of politicians and law enforcement – so that we can protect children”, that is essentially what this chat control is going to do to our digital lives.
There are better ways to protect children than to dismantle all digital privacy of citizens, it is just a façade to hide the real intention behind the motion.
CSV and LSAP giving plenty or reasons to not vote for them lol
Need to remember this for the next euro parliament elections. Expected better from Tilly Metz, very disappointing.
Edit: just found out her father passed away shortly before the vote. Can’t fault her for prioritising that over the vote.

If I read the vote results correctly, it seems like Wiseler-Lima misvoted and corrected her vote lol.
So she was also in favor of the chat control.

I didn’t know what it was about but if Fernand Kartheiser is in favour of it, it can’t be good.
It’s unbelievable we want to give private societies such power. Not even the police can go through your phone without a warrant of a judge or when a crime or misdemeanour has happened the last 25 hours.
Here we have to give full acces to „our“ (there’s the problem) databanks to meta, Google etc…you know…those companies who just want the best for everyone and won’t abuse this at all….believe me … it’s true /s.
Also what I found pretty infuriating is that not a single line was posted on RTL.lu I checked the whole day yesterday, nothing. Journalists need to do their homework.
It passed with a majority of 11 votes. Remember that you can message every MEP and ask them why they voted in favour of it.

These are the same people who have to call their children for help when they end up in the settings menu of their smart TV… The EU is a fantastic project but those assholes are destroying it with turning it into Stasi 2.0
So, the elder class is pro? Color me unsurprised.
The political cowardice is just as rampant as during the plandemic.
