It’d transform our world, for the worse. It’s never increased tax revenue in any country where it’s been tried. Once again, everything wealth taxes try to achieve are much better achieved with a land value tax.

    2. Even the most extreme unrealized gains wealth tax proposals floating around would only raise an estimated [40b](https://www.policyalternatives.ca/news-research/the-case-for-a-wealth-tax-is-stronger-than-ever-in-canada/). Not even enough to cover our indigenous affairs budget for last year.

People massively overestimate the amount of revenue available to the government.

A wealth tax is not the solution. Taxing the rich more is appropriate but a wealth tax is the most historically failed way to do that. A Land Value Tax could transform our world for the better.

But writers don’t want stories about that because it would mean they would have to pay as well, best to just target the billionaires and not really change the world.

I hate a billionaire like the next guy. But this isn’t going to solve shit. If you introduce a wealth tax, you should also introduce tax free income up to 100k.

I’m so tired of this debate. Can we instead fully tax capital gains and reduce the overall tax rate so that everyone is taxed the same ?

Edit: by everyone being taxed the same, I mean owners not being taxed at 50% while the working class income is being taxed at 100%
