    1. If this was true, I’m happy for her.

No child should go through that shit. Ever.

    2. She ended up being a decent person, with odds against her, from what I see recently.

    3. I can’t believe she still speaks with her mother. Because I’d go no contact after that shit

If you had told me 20 years ago that Paris Hilton would be one of the only modern celebrities working towards Dolly Parton status I would have never believed you. I really hope she keeps up the good work

    5. Glad to see more attention is being paid to the person that she is, not the character that she played when she was younger, and that she’s been vindicated.

Happy for her. I’ve ready very little about this stuff about her, and it’s more than enough to sympathize. Not to mention how she’s trying to help other girls in similar situations.

As someone who went through “the program” this is a huge win. I never thought I’d see the day.

My ex-wife went to this place.

It fucked her up for LIFE. Mentally and psychologically. Many of the issues in our marriage stemmed from the abuse she suffered here.

I am happy that we are one step closer to shutting down this abusive industry.

Vindication for childhood abuse is a *massive* thing for victims. It goes a long way towards healing, or at very least coming to terms with what she went through.

Good for her, she deserves vindication and no more children need to be traumatized by their own parents having them kidnapped

Of everything about her, this is the most believable.

She was always a smartish person. You heard the things she wanted you to. And since then, nothing crazy or as dumb has been happening.

Granted, I do not pay attention to celebrity news but she used to be at least weekly.

It reminds me of that once famous place, I think Elan was its name? The dude who once was forced to go there made a whole comic series based on his experiences there and it is really wild what goes on at those types of places

Like, reading that it felt like some crazy MK Ultra human experience gone horribly wrong or something, not some rehabilitation center for troubled youth who needed help

I ran a behavioral health service line in my last business. When we saw „Provo“ on a resume, automatic denial. No way a business that heinous can fully change their ways.

I went to an RTC in Utah and we had a transfer from Provo. He claimed he developed narcolepsy from being thrown against a wall by a staff member there. He used to fall asleep mid sentence during group therapy, it was wild to see. He was probably 16-17

First paragraph on the “school’s” Wikipedia page: **Provo Canyon School** (PCS) is a private, for-profit [residential treatment center](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residential_treatment_center) for children and adolescents located in Provo and Springville, Utah. Since its founding in 1971, the facility has been the subject of extensive allegations, investigations, and litigation related to the treatment of residents, including claims of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, which have been reported by former students, journalists, and advocacy organizations.

    17. I went through a [drug and alcohol treatment centre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synanon) that was horribly scarring emotionally. Some of the counselors were good people who were doing their best, but it still fucked up a lot of people, some of whom committed suicide after leaving.

I’m still clean and sober, though I don’t know how much credit can be attributed to the facility. Having to wear a pink teddy bear on a rope around one’s neck definitely messes with your head.

Excellent! Now do the rest nationwide.

I live in NC which has these abuse mills. Some kids died and they’re still open.

    19. Remember that the supreme court voted this year 5-4 to legalize gay conversion therapy in states it was made illegal

Gay conversion therapy was made illegal by professional therapist and psychologist because it has no grounding in scientific fact or modern day psychological standard practice. Professional consider it dangerous child abuse

and yes these means that 5 of our supreme court justices are pro child abuse and legalized it.

If I had to guess, there are probably more of these places in Utah that haven’t been shut down and won’t be. It took all this time for a very famous and wealthy person to get ONE of them shut down, I highly doubt the rest have gotten any scrutiny by the state. The owners are probably GOP donors.

    21. The Desert Mountain SELPA in Apple Valley California paid for many emotionally handicapped students from different school school districts to go to Provo Canyon School a „group home“ rather than closer to home and in the state of California. I received many of these students back into classrooms and the stories they told were horrific and they and their families were damaged by the experience. The school district paid the financial bill but made next to no plans to integrate the students back to home schools. When I confronted the director of SELPA about the damage, the answer was that is was better these students were out of state and out of sight. I moved my office and tried to be at the IEPs placing these students out of state. It’s not hard to believe that there were financial ties with school districts in California. The parents of the students were tired and poor and vulnerable. And they did not have the money that Paris Hilton had,but I am glad someone with some power was able to finally shut this place down!
