Welcome, wait till you discover that most of the support lines you call aren’t in Switzerland

    2. Wait, you want to say AI is only an excuse and in fact the problem is near shoring?

    3. AbbreviationsEast177 on

They need to do this because they lost half of there customers i changed everything as they said they start a callcenter in kosovo. Now I pay 1/3 from the monthly price and the callcenter is local.

    4. I find the Swisscom case much more worrying. That The Post moves IT roles to a much lower cost country may be rational from a business perspective, if they are able to find the right resources there.

But Rotterdam is probably not much cheaper than Switzerland. If cost was the main driver they would have picked another country. Instead I think the reason is fiscal optimization and this shows a weakening of the fiscal argument for moving (and staying) in switzerland, that prompted so many foreign companies to be based here.

I hope they moved there just because they need an EU data center / operations for legal / compliance reasons. But if they start building other functions there , so that they can move euro-wide profits there in a fiscal efficient way, then things will get darker quite fast in switzerland.

      Swiss Post but they’re off-shoring jobs 😔

Maybe they should change their name…

    6. The people at the top don’t care they’re making bank. Die Post did promise that their IT campus in Portugal was extending their current IT operations, not replacing swiss workers.

It’s shameful from swisscom’s part because they’re both saving money while also making their subscriptions more expensive.

Unfortunately though I also think that there might be a lack of talent in switzerland in general in IT, at least in suisse romande there is A LOT of software developers coming from France, and it isn’t salary dumping, they make the same amount as if they had been swiss natives

    7. I think happens if profit expextations are not met.

It seems Swiss companies cannot afford their own IT staff anymore.

Who still has swisscom blue TV+mobile+ whatevs?

Never a nearshore engineer told me “if it’s not in the backlog I won’t do it” they always delivered with a very progressive out of the box mentality…

    9. no – because they dont want hirer swiss people – we dont have a fachkräftemangel but we have a sklaven mangel – we dont work for 10$ / month

    10. It’s a good sign! They were off-shoring to India like it was 2002 for a while, now they figured out IBM and Accenture lied to them again, so they have to near shore it, soon they’ll discover that “key roles” were maybe a bit broader than anticipated and after about 3-4 more years those jobs are coming back to Switzerland.

They’ll stay for 10 years until the next CXO doofus think “what if we off-shored some of these jobs”. And on and on it goes!

is this a question looking for some sort of confirmation? Of course it is

And their service has become so crappy recently. I had problems with Internet for 3 days – there was no Internet at all. When I called them they were talking about some major outage, then that there’s outage in my block and then in my apartment. They eventually sent to me engineer only to be told that he did „nothing“ and only „rewired the cables“ which I did number of times. I believe he said it only to make Swisscom pay me for the service. Luckily for me their employees were talking with me over the phone and said that fault was not mine so they cancelled this invoice but wtf.

Then the quality of Internet completely dropped – I had constant lags and kicks while gaming and my connection was offering 20 Mb/s instead of 100. I know that the speed is worded „up to“ but still. They could not help me but it turned out that wifi was using some shitty frequency and changing it helped but I had to figure it out myself, run the tests myself and finally fixed it myself. Now I pay a lot for my Internet but at least connection is stable thanks to me.

    13. Yes, main motivation to always blame Swisscom and never buy anything from them. Fuck Swisscom

    14. Worked in a team as a external frontend developer with people from rotterdam before i got kicked for beeing to expensive

    15. The general gen X upper management is good at cutting costs, not at creating or just making good business.
      „Death by a thousand cuts.“

Everywhere the same nonsense „We need to be faster, more efficient, fail faster, ownership…“
Meanwhile: „Lets cut our workforce and focus on managing our portfolio, we need to be lean to remain competitive.“

And 100% the HR of these companies will go around and say „Its so difficult to find people in Switzerland, we have to look elsewhere.“

    16. Emergency-Kale3402 on

Absolutely. Plus maybe we should force all these companies to have a label. We do that for food, so why not for them? At least we could choose wisely.

    17. I got my computer science degree a year ago and I was lucky enough to find a job. However, I’m afraid of leaving it or being laid off because I know that jobs in this sector are going to become scarce due to AI and outsourcing, which is really sad. In a few years, we’ll have to learn new skills because there will be almost no IT jobs left.

    18. Better question is that if highly paid jobs are getting nearshored and prices still go up, profits are still low, then where does that money go?

Not on efficiency but on feeding the wasserkopf. That’s the truth.

    19. Despite this, Swisscom prices are still over the roof. That’s fucking insane.

The job market today is unbelievable awesome…

    20. Nearshoring is slightly better than offshoring, but it’s still not nice.

It’s great that companies ask you to be in the office in Switzerland in order to be on teams calls with people abroad, by the way. It shows that the whole office arguments are crap.

If private citizens go shopping across the border why should companies not do the same?

    22. WillingnessFinal1411 on

For any smaller company that does this, the magic disappears quickly. A competent person is usually as expensive here as it is there!

These are all humans. Don’t they have eyes and ears? Don’t these managers see how much contempt they generate all around? This nearshoring is still seen like a genius solution. Same for less, right? Like other countries don’t have talent pipelines? Like these humans don’t want liveable careers? Would you want to work for Google in Zurich, but a third of California paycheck and haha, what promotion, shut up, you replaceable and immediately fireable human. Way to build a company.

      It’s imperialism.

Meanwhile you can’t bring a whole chicken back from across the border without sniffer dogs and cameras trying to catch you.
