    1. From the article:

„An Access to Information request has revealed that the federal government put together an internal plan to monitor online content and potentially sue individual Canadians over what they post.

The strategy is laid out in a 35-page internal document from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), which was obtained by *Blacklock’s Reporter*. The department is headed by Industry Minister Mélanie Joly. Now the non-profit Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) is reaching out to find out whether any Canadians have received notices from the federal government about taking down their online posts.

Based on the records, the department set up a framework to track online narratives, comb through individual social media posts on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and X, and size up potential threats tied to what the government calls online misinformation. The redacted documents show it built out an escalation process for dealing with targeted content, and that process included the option of taking legal action against individual Canadians over what they post.“

For serious misinformation, like outright and intentional lies that could do harm to the public at large?  Yeah I can see that angle.

But there’s a fine line between that and controversial opinions that hurt people’s feelings.  This is a very hazardous slope

Everyone involved in coming up with this plan needs to be fired very publicly and very dramatically.

    4. Thanks you clowns for voting liberal 11 years. Great country it’s turned into

Punishment for saying something the government doesn’t like, that’s not authoritarian at all /s

    6. Social media platforms are not the press. No reasonable person expects that information to be vetted for accuracy. Going after someone for posting classified or sensitive government information is one thing. Going after people posting content that you don’t like is quite another.

I love how the government talks about how China persecutes and spies on its citizens, yet when we do it it is ok.

    8. Technocrats in charge for the final scrapping of the Canadian working class. This is just positioning for the fallout.

It is a can of worms. It is so easy to define your opponents position as misinformation and thus aim to criminalize them sharing their opinions. Whose opinions will be criminalized will depend on who is in power, or which lobbies are the strongest.

LOL. and we all made fun of Trump for crying over online shit.

This is Insane, But this is What Canadians voted for.

      elbows up!

    14. There are new laws in B.C. where licensed healthcare providers can face heavy fines and discipline if they post misinformation online. I don’t think it’s a bad thing in this example but I also agree it can become a slippery slope depending on who is in power and whether or not they trust science/evidence-based practices.

    20. THIS:
„Just last month, the Liberal government quietly passed its controversial Bill C-22, seen as a spy bill, overnight without any debate.
Companies such as Apple, Google and numerous VPN p argued strongly against the bill, but it didn’t matter in the end.“

    21. Anybody have the actual document that they got from the Access to information request? Looks like the blacklock article is a paywall.

When can citizens sue the government for lying, corruption, and ethics violations?

Asking for all of Canada who don’t vote Liberal.

This is the same Government of Canada that attempted to destroy all the evidence that they implemented the pass system, knew it was illegal, and knew what was happening on the reserves while it was in effect right? And they still try and evade talking about even when passes started reappearing?

Im sure we can trust them to be honest arbiters of the truth.
