      Almost 47k pregnant women who got access to appropriate medical care and didn’t have to fly to the UK. Shows that repealing the 8th has helped women in this country

      Always proud of the fact that we voted for safe and legal abortion in this country. Glad to see the government voted to remove the three day wait too – another small step towards compassionate, appropriate care for women.

      Good. Each of these women would have been forced to travel to another country for empathetic healthcare or carry a child they did not want.

      I support the right to choose/ women’s autonomy. This may draw heat as there is no official data, but I’m interested in the socioeconomic proxies, ie rising numbers of abortions in tandem with the cost of living/ housing crisis (2019 (6,666) to 2024 (10,852). The devil may be in the details – the right to choose may also demonstrate structural inequalities around family planning.

      Overall good for those who went that route and didn’t had to travel abroad or using a coat hanger or other things….
      But I wonder is there a number of people who got multiple abrotions? That could act as an indicator for either mistreating woman or lack of accessible contraception or even the need for better sex ed.

      I would bet the minority are because the women just don’t want a baby. The majority are probably for the woman’s health, lack of resources to raise a child, or an unviable pregnancy.

      Jfc that’s bleak, were we really forcing tens of thousands of women to forcibly give birth just a few years back. That’s so fucking dark.

      Repealing the 8th is the only thing the government has done to fix the housing crisis. Less houses needed in 12-18 years.
