They were never going to negotiate in good faith. All we can do is hope in a decade the insanity period in the USA is over.

The next President will sign a new deal…Trump is too dumb to know when a good deal is on the table

That’s fine, CUSMA is still in place until 2036 and Trump will likely be dead by then.

I suppose as long as it’s Congress that’s doing this, then it’s „valid“ (if monumentally stupid of them), vs just Trump issuing an EO to try this.
It’s going to *suck*, but they’ve shown us who they are, so we should believe them and take steps to mitigate the damage as much as possible.

It’ll be interesting to see what pops up to allow Canadians to work in the US.

If CUSMA ends, Canada will enter a recession unlike anything ever seen
I’ll be fine, I work for Wall Street, everybody that voted Carney about to be unemployed lol

As I’ve said a dozen times negotiate directly with Mexico for free trade, and pursue a separate deal with the US if need be.
Can’t let a single unstable partner topple a trilateral deal.

lol by the time the sunset period is half way done the country will have a new president. And I’m pretty sure even another republican has no interest in trade wars.

Okay, if the U.S. uses this as a pretext to further violate the agreement, how about we start by shaving off the 20 years of additional copyright protection that was added on in CUSMA at the request of the U.S. (increased from 50 to 70 years)? This change could exclusively apply only to American copyrighted material for all I care.

Okay. This will just speed up our move away from the US as a reliable trade partner. It was already moving fairly quickly and being too integrated opened us up to abuse, which Trump tried to leverage.

There’s little point in negotiating with an administration as unprincipled and unstable as this one. Canada needs to step away from the US and forge deeper relationships with the rest of the world
Trump has also said that he views deals as zero sum games where everything one side gets comes at the expense of the other side. He doesn’t seem to understand the idea of mutual benefit or cooperation. MAYBE that kind of simplistic thinking is acceptable in the business world but it is completely inappropriate for someone in Trump’s position

Should have signed the deal in the fall.

Does this mean an end to Article 605 of the original NAFTA?
