    1. As a bonus, phasing out fossil fuels also makes us less reliant on a certain Strait. Never has the right path forward been clearer.

Just allocate significant funds to research energy storage (batteries). Once clean energy becomes easy to collect and store, the root of the problem will gradually go away.

    3. I think we are way past the point of having a civilized conversation with people denying (end especially contributing to) climate change….

    4. fiendishrabbit on

No need to put quotation marks around „lies“ in that statement. It’s lies.

    5. IrradiatedFrog on

Maybe the Greens need to stop broadcasting lies about nuclear and AC, then?

    6. General_Vanilla1892 on

China, India and US alone stands for over 50% of the total emission, Europe for under 10%. Solar, wind, water energy is fine – it would be nice to get rid of the dependency of oil from middle east and Russia and then we can pat our self on the back and look down on the others, but as long as EU keep pouring in cheap shit from Asia we are just as big a part of this than the others.

Watch how all the people who have been telling us climate change is a hoax now pivot to telling us its real but it’s stupid to try to do anything about it.

There is no path out, rejecting old lies doesn’t actually accomplish anything. Buying renewables that you can’t manufacture locally just makes you a slave. The only real way to stop climate change will be to shut down global trade and I don’t see Europe clamoring for that outcome.

    9. EatAssIsGold on

EU produce 7% of global green house gasses and it’s going down already for a decade.

Most of underdeveloped world is increasing their emissions massively as they rightfully want better life standard. And coal is still the cheapest solution for heating.

So…. Champion electric grid infrastructure and renewable technology to offer cheaper solutions for the other part of the globe instead of leaving electrification technological dominance to China.

I saw a German activist who wants people to raid industrial plants to shut down their production. Should we listen to them (and make CCP happier)?

It’s hilarious that we are somehow still debating whether climate change is real and man made all the while it’s too late to do anything about it 😂

Humans are a fucking plague and the earth will be much better of when we go extinct of evolve into being that trust science and live in harmony with nature.

Unfortunately the prevention-only phase has passed. We need some degree of active measures now, too.

      We need:

      Rapid emissions cuts

      &

Adaptation (like less concrete, more shade & insulation)

      &

Greatly expanded research into carbon removal & solar radiation modification, because it’s probably too late for emissions cuts alone

The challenges are getting right-wingers to stop pretending it’s no big deal, getting old people to stop hating any change in the aesthetics of their town, getting more ecos and green parties to wake up to the fact that it’s too late for only emissions cuts + the resulting necessity of carbon removal and/or SRM, and getting nihilists to shut up and go away.

    16. DazedAtNight on

Too little too late? We’ve been promising drastic climate change measures since I was like, 8.

And you know what happened to the goals? Of being completely dependent on x sustainable source and phasing out petrol? Shot to shit. We got carbon credits from them. That’s it. We decided to blow it, and the long dildo of consequences will be shoved down our throat unlubed.

Fuck our governments and the institutions that failed us. It’s too late to reverse climate change, why do you think every rich dude is buying bunkers? The only way I think, if I’m paint huffingly optimistic, is just cutting down petrol consumption to the historic lows of barely anything.

And call me a cynical fuck, but will your government? Ask yourself, will your people?

Can we tell the volcanoes that erupted a few years back and thode huge forest fires across the globe to stop heating up the atmosphere?

    18. For me the biggest problem is that we’ve been lied to for so long and are now on the precipice of catastrophe. Not just lied to about global warming but that the very fabric of 21st century life is based on fossil fuels. The problem isn’t just energy but aviation, shipping, clothing, road transport, medication, agriculture, building, demolition, toys, computers, phones, tvs, games consoles, kitchen white goods, jewellery, supermarkets, refrigeration, livestock … basically every factor of consumerist society creates emissions.

Guess what? We don’t have the technology to replace all of these and even the parts that we do we are basically bootstrapping green energy infrastructure using fossil fuels. We needed to pause consumerism 30 years ago whilst we worked out alternatives but we didn’t. We’re in *exactly* the same position now and still saying *“we need to do something“*. The something is exactly the same – stop buying and selling shit that we don’t need until we can produce the shit that we don’t need without damaging the environment.

We’re not going to though are we? Hence we are going to go from the edge of catastrophe to the edge of apocalypse very very quickly now. People like me are predicting that point is 25 to 50 years, that the IPCC projections for 2100 are copium fiction designed to deny the seriousness of the situation so that the masses keep buying and corporations/politicians can kick the can down the road. Until there is no road … then they will all suddenly dive onto their islands and bunkers and get very quiet.

Sorry that was a bit of a rant. I’m so tired of the bullshit though.

We should try to find a comet consisting mostly of ice, and mine it for giant ice cubes, which simply get dropped into the ocean once in a while to cool things off. Of course, because the greenhouse gasses are still building up, it takes more and more ice each time, thus solving the problem once and for all.

    20. The PROBLEM is not caused by EU. We can go green 150% it will Not matter in any significant way. The rest of the globe is throwing their trash in the river & factories have $0.00 expenses on filters or whatever regulations. This is moot to discuss unless everyone joins in.

Cheap oil & gas from Russia?! That is -100% green produced. Buying that is countering all your Green regulations and laws and the whole department because they do no care and pollution does not sit in place. The same for most of the globe.

Global warming is not regional or selective.

    21. NefariousBlue on

Pretty sad that it falls on the shoulders of an EU green chief to say this, while every head of state should be saying this out loud, publicly. Everyone is afraid of brain dead right wing voters.

    22. DrinkBuzzCola on

People who knowingly spread these lies deserve eternal climate change in the afterlife.

    23. Crypto_gambler952 on

Nobody’s denying the existence of climate! The dispute is whether or not humans are the sole cause of the this heatwave, or whether other cycles and factors are the main cause!

    24. The president of the Italian Senate said, “We’ll get used to the Caribbean climate. We’re not going to die.”

This is the third more powerful person in Italy by the way. The second in line to replace Mattarella.

    25. Why is ‚lies‘ in quotes in the title?

There’s an absurdly long list of actual, verifiable lies at this point, mostly from the oil companies, the Saudis and corrupt governments like the US right now.

    26. trickortreat89 on

Great. Start with cancelling Facebook then. Most of the climate denials happens there and clearly brings out the worst in people…
