*“Rita said: „She went to take a picture of me, and I pushed her camera out of her face…“

Following a number of incidents over time, a decision was taken to withdraw this individual’s right to shop at our Hook store. This action was not taken lightly, but the safety and well-being of colleagues and customers always come first.“*

So she admits to assaulting a staff member and the stores claim it has happened multiple times. Justifiable ban, not sure why her being a nan or 79 has any relevance.

I hate to side with bit corporations, but as someone who worked in retail, I’m guessing this nan was a total nightmare to the staff regularly.

I used to work at Sainsburys and they didn’t ban the guy who threw a 12 pack of beer at me, so I’ve got to wonder what Rita actually did.

Supermarkets don’t tend to just bar people without good reason. I reckon there’s way more to this story than she’s making out

she looks nasty even in the photo, imagine dealing with a customer like that

    6. Hungry-Situation-427 on

She looks like she’s about to smack the shit outta the photographer…just saying.

Might be true, elderly people are the nicest and the worst group at the same time

    8. Historical_Leg5998 on

She’s ’not interested in money’ but she’s buying lottery tickets. At 79.

    9. Crazy notion to think that everyone becomes nice once they’re elderly.

How many assholes do you know. I doubt they will all become pleasant in their elderly years.

Edit: assuming the point of the article is to shame Argos for banning an old person.

    10. She’s probably one of those rude pensioners who thinks she can talk to people however she wants.“

I’ve seen people do some wild stuff at my local Sainsbury and not get barred, especially from every store in the country, there is definitely more to the story.

If she’s not interested in money then I’m sure she will be fine getting a taxi to Tesco.

The thing about nasty arseholes is that they don’t stop being nasty arseholes just because they get old. They’re still the same person they’ve always been. Old people are not some homogeneous group, they have the same mixture of decent people and arseholes as every other age group.

    14. I suspect there’s a back story to this that isn’t being disclosed in the article.

I’ve worked in retail, whatever she did, she probably deserves to be banned.

My mate is a checkout manager in a local Tesco and he has a few people like this. Old people who do nothing but complain in Sheffield.. one of the complaints was from a elderly woman who didn’t feel safe using a till with a brown person on it. She has then counted all the staff and which percentage was white. She said some really racist stuff and then put a complaint in that my mate was rude to her.

I don’t really understand how the practice of countrywide banning is implemented.

Whenever I’ve gone in my local Sainsbury’s to the Argos there no one has even glanced at my face so if I was the one banned I don’t see how they’d know it was me and know to stop me.

Maybe a few places are given a face picture to recognise but there must be some locations that don’t get the memo which means it’s not literally EVERY location that would know I’d been banned and to stop me.

Surely someone banned just had to find a location that’s either unaware or not vigilant enough to notice someone banned entering.

I would love to hear the side of the people to regularly had to serve her.

I would place my bets on her being a nightmare to deal with.

    19. She can’t go to the supermarket fine minutes from her house anymore, and wants the ban lifted.

      Oh no. Consequences.

    20. She’s been nasty and insulting a number of times apparently according to locals, so she got what she deserved.

    21. quite_acceptable_man on

She says she’s ’not that sort of person‘, yet none of the articles feature any family, friends, or even her husband leaping to her defence.

More likely they’re just thinking „Mother’s off on one again“, and keeping their heads down becaue they know *exactly* what she’s like.

    22. CyberPunkDongTooLong on

„I’m not that sort of person, I never cause trouble, I never do any trouble – they’re saying it to get out of everything.“

… To get out of what? There’s nothing they’re being accused of.

    23. ‘Nan, 79, banned from every Sainsbury’s and Argos in the UK for being a cunt’, fixed the headline for you.

    24. Tasty-Committee-8172 on

Respect your elders! Even when they’re repeatedly assaulting minimum wage retail staff!

There’s no age limit on being held accountable for your actions. If she was under 60 no one would have any sympathy for her.

    25. blackleydynamo on

„Argumentative cow who assaulted minimum wage retail staff banned from every Sainsbury’s and Argos in the UK“ would have been the more accurate headline.

      Less clickbaity, but more accurate.

The customer is **not** always right. Sometimes they’re a cunt.

    26. lol, this is my local Sainsbury’s. Also to say Tescos is a 20-minute journey is a bit of a stretch unless she’s walking at a snails pace but even then Sainsbury’s would probably be the same.

Also this Sainsbury’s has only existed for the last 2/3 years. What was she doing for the other 26 years she’s lived here…
