It’s not as if this is a recent innovation.
Tree lined avenues have been a thing for eons.. but hey, leaves need sweeping up and that’s messy..

Those cobblestone streets with root systems beneath them are probabaly better at soaking up torrential rain as well.

Actually see this picture from years. Like people need to be explained that trees can cast a shadow

10 degrees reduction in air temperature? For real?

Yes 20 degrees of difference. Gtfo.
They do make a difference, but this image is bs.

Too bad the streets are too narrow for 2 lane cars, parking spaces, cars, trees and 2 sidewalks… so of course we won’t have trees😒

Yes but where we’re gonna park all those beautifull and efficient vehicles 😌

Okay so how have these labels been produced? Were there temperature sensors involved or did someone grab two photos from the internet and add a bunch of text labels and arrows in Microsoft word?

Yeah, that’s nice. But currently we’re not talking about 46 degrees in the sun, cozy 22 degrees in the shade. We’re talking about friggin‘ **42 degrees in the shade!!!**
Yes, more trees are very good (I’m actually living in the city in Europe with the highest percentage of green space). But it’s not the final solution to mitigate climate change.

Do one with water circulation. Turns out, if you have no trees thats bad too. I think I read this in 3. class. 500years ago.

There are sometimes even discussions about tree alleys along country roads; they would only be a safety risk (because if you come off the road you collide with a tree) and would serve no purpose anymore. I hate our society.

I’ve heard a lot of the time shopkeepers oppose any tree planting and bike lanes because they think losing parking spots makes them lose business, even though the opposite has been true everywhere where it has been done.

Spain is basically a desert and yet no one wants to plant trees… by the contrary, people buy big houses and the first thing they do is to cut every tree and cement the patio

Our town is still on the good side, and even we seem to be suffering from this anti-tree epidemic. Main square had a park with trees and stuff, it was turned into a mixed building, with apartments so expensive that they were still empty years later. Meanwhile a street was lined with big trees, which were cut down because people were allergic to them, apparently.

Yeah I’m sad that at least here in finland, newly developed areas have just very little green. It’s all just pavement (not even touching the subject ofarchitecture), even the parks have pavement :/
Although it’s usually not very hot, it just looks so depressing. There are so many objective benefits to having more trees and greenspace around, it’s crazy.

They completely wiped out a small woodland and a park that used to be central to my neighbourhood just to build four fucking apartment blocks. Last year, summer in Sardinia, and especially in my city, was relatively mild, and I still felt the heat more than I had the year before when the park and the woodland were still standing.
Bear in mind that one of those areas was an olive grove that was supposedly protected, while the park stood on land donated by a well-known wealthy man from the city for the construction of a school, on the condition that everything not strictly needed for the school would remain protected and could not be developed once the project was completed.
And these buildings are not just hideous. Their prices make absolutely no sense for a city like mine, and they have also gentrified the entire neighbourhood, pushing up the prices even of crumbling flats from the 1960s and 1970s by around 30%.
The most idiotic part is that we are building everywhere under the fake excuse of creating more affordable housing, while actually forcing people who were born and raised in those neighbourhoods to leave and make room for wealthy buyers, or worse, considering the recent increase in Camorra activity in northern Sardinia, fuelled by the transfer of numerous 41-bis prisoners to the island.

Genuinely hope this heatwave causes streets like this to come back. I’m so tired of concrete everything

It would be interesting to see the same simulation after a storm like the one we had in France this year, with all the uprooted trees.
