I think its accurate, but people like to complain so they will never be happy anyway
He is using average wage instead of median wage. If he was using median, it would look far different
Please, not this again.
>Though I suppose the average income could be higher than the median if there is a minority with very high salaries.
This place is sooo cheap that minimum wage workers don’t even live in the country.
Just read the small print and consult the whole primary source to see the zillion limitations that data set has.
People who have 2 average incomes CAN live in the country.
People who earn less than that live outside the country and drive / ride to work 3+ unpaid hours per day.
It kinda easy. If you compare with living in other countries, fore example Portugal, is not better and wages are way lower.
Of course, if you are an immigrant here, probably you have flight expenses that you wouldn’t have at home but rent are still not that bad compared to other countries
What 😂
It is actually true but There is a fundamental difference compare to the other countries . Every is expensive here . You have no savings at the end of the month .
So a few things to think about with this graph. First of all it’s using mean salaries which makes all of the cities featured seem more affordable than they actually are. Median salaries would be more sensible for this purpose. However the trend comparing to other capitals is correct – Luxembourg does have relatively higher salaries when compared to rent versus other cities. There’s also another option unique to Luxembourg which is that living in the capital is optional, and you can live in a different easily commutable town in the grand duchy for a much lower housing cost.
So yeah it’s true despite the graph’s methodology being a bit off, albeit not to the extent suggested on the graph.
It is expensive here, which is normal in a country with high wages. However, relatively speaking it is way cheaper than in most bigger cities that have similar job opportunities. A couple with two minimum wages, will be able to afford a one-bedroom appartment in the capital, although a bit tight. However, in larger cities, such a london, people commute very long, and if you look around luxembourg city in a radius of 30-45 minutes from the city center, the same couple might already be able to afford a 2-bedroom appartment already.
Everyone else saying something different is just delusional. I managed to live a pretty good lifestyle on a 3k budget, meaning living in a one-bedroom appartment, eat out 2-3 times a week, travel regularly (3-4 weeks a year, occasionally intercontinental), no material deprivation, and owning a car. It is possible to live a dignified life here on minimum wage, and anyone not doing it, just has their priorities set wrongly (e.g. smoking can eat away a big chunk of the budget, a car loan for an overly expensive car etc.). Imo these people wouldn’t be able to save any money if they had twice what they made.
It’s not necessarily unaffordable but will you as an immigrant make that amount of money? Another thing, those rents seems to exclude charges for things that you have little control about such as electricity of elevators, or garbage collection of an entire building. That would add up to the rent 10-15%.
Start from your net revenues, divide by 3, and that will give you a budget (rent+charges) for the properties that you can reasonably afford.
