Actually for both kids and parents having them close together is good. You relate to each other much more as siblings, and as parents you only go through the „my life is hell“ stage of 0-4yr old kids for a grand total of 6 years rather than 8. If you want more than two kids that equation becomes even stronger.
The criticism also makes zero biological sense. The time a healthy adult woman needs to recover from pregnancy/childbirth and get back on track is virtually always less than 6 months. In that immediate period, falling pregnant is much unlikelier anyways. Medically and psychologically, 2 years between births is plenty of a gap
