I live in the city of Uijeongbu, South Korea, which is home to the Norwegian Korean War Veterans Memorial Park. There’s a small plaque in the park with text in Korean, English, and Norwegian. The English text states:
*623 Norwegian men and women served at the Norwegian field hospital NORMASH from 1951 to 1953. The field hospital was part of the U.S. 8th Army. NORMASH was first established at Uijongbu, but was soon moved to the frontline at Dongducheon. NORMASH treated more than 90,000 patients, of whom 14,755 were hospitalized. Nearly 10,000 medical operations were conducted. For its efforts NORMASH was awarded the Korean Presidential Citation, and twice the U.S. Award of the Meritorious Commendation.*
On the anniversary of the start of the Korean War (25 June, 1950), a heartfelt thank you to all the Norwegians who came to Korea to help those in need of assistance.
