Yes, and you, the media, are primarily the reason. No one can do anything right, everyone is paid off by bigger corporations to push certain agendas, YOU are the problem, and now you’re writing a fucking article saying we’re worse off because of it.

      Honestly.

Truss getting the benefits is just a joke.

Also most of them should be in jail for war crimes or grand fraud rather than receaving anything.

They shouldn’t get any of the former pm benefits if they didn’t stick a term. Maybe some package for managing half a term and nothing if they leave before that.

The cost to us is basically minuscule as far as the public purse is concerned. It’s a rounding error of a government budget.

      Thunderdome.
We hold an elimination event. Whoever is left gets 2 times the pay out, we ultimately save.

The end of democracy. If every leader gets booted every time they are unpopular, you will get leaders that only focus on short term popular measures.

Which will not make a great country. It is sad and the media and social media have something to answer for.

Maybe we could round them up into a flock, gaggle or whatever the collective noun is, and let them be protected by one set of teams round the clock.

That would save manpower and money. 👍

The law needs changing. You should have to have served four full years (minimum) as PM and have won a general election to receive the added bonus pension for life. Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Truss, Sunak and Starmer do not receive it.

Asking a PM to serve one term of maximum parliamentary sovereignty and win an election is a low bar for receiving such wealth for many decades in the future.

maybe try not having a PM until all but the last 3 are dead, see how that goes

      just a thought

One should be in the Hague, one should be deported back to the States, one shouldn’t even be considered a exPM, one REALLY doesn’t need the cash, one owes us a rebate for the last 10 years…….

Change rules so that changing leader mid term results in a general election immediately and you’d suddenly end up with far less. Make elections every 4 instead of up to 5 years (imo 5 years is too long) while at it.

Should be a rule where if a PM steps down or is ousted then a general election HAS to be called

They say in a few years time 4 out of every 5 people you meet will be an ex UK prime minister.

Let’s be real for a second, it’s a drop in the ocean of government spending, a complete non-issue

    17. Why can’t we just let them do their job before deciding if they should be replaced

When is the cost NOT mounting? Gas, electricity, food, taxes, Council tax, water, broadband, mobile, rent, petrol, car insurance, home insurance, train fares, computer components, computers themselves, video games, subscriptions — all on the rise. Entertainment is on the rise too.

Meanwhile, while products are getting more expensive, they’re also getting so shit that we’ve now got words for it: shrinkflation and enshittification. Nothing’s going to get cheap. Even if we nationalised these companies that hand out bonuses to their CEOs like sweets, they still wouldn’t lower the prices.

Our water is diseased, our air is getting more polluted, and AI data centres are being allowed to build massive buildings that chew up half our electricity — yet no one seems interested in solving any of it. And that’s before I even get into mass illegal migration, which Keir promised to stop and „smash the gangs“.

    19. if the twats can’t last the term they shouldn’t get the pay or in a sensible world what don’t we pay the pms the average wage across the country then it’s actually in their interest to get the average pay up.

    20. 150k a year which for most of these is being outed for being shite, doubly so in Truss‘ case.

Wasn’t it £5m a year just for Toni Blair’s security back when he left?
