      I can’t imagine that a certain someone will be happy about being left out, or even allow it

      But besides that, I really like this

      The old Hejaz railway was destroyed by the Brits unfortunately.

      Maybe go Jeddah then Mecca cause it seems like ur increasing distance and time by going Jeddah last as it’s basically close to going backwards

      I find it really hard to believe they’re going to go through the Empty Quarter, wouldn’t it be smarter to follow the coast, then go through Al-Ain?

      Also Mecca and Jeddah are way closer than this map shows.

      Doesn’t include more of the Hejaz, Hejaz is on the south-west coast of Saudi Arabia. This is more of a pan-Arabia railway

      Shame they are skipping Iraq and Egypt, but if it is successful they will expand in the future.

      With intereurope high speed railway project, and China-Iran-Turkiye railroad project, the new Hejiaz would complete inter-Eurasia railway system.

      Tbh, if this would be possible at my retirement, I’d be happy to travel the whole Eurasia only taking trains.

      maybe im just stupid but isnt this route super weird? maan -> medina -> mecca -> riyadh -> muscat with branches to qatar and UAE would connect a lot more cities, including tabuk etc, this route seems like it intentionally avoids cities and goes through the desert

      Interesting how different commenters are picking up on different issues—the geography seems off for both the Hejaz name and the actual route, and leaving out certain neighbors feels like a recipe for tension. I get that the Empty Quarter is a bold symbol, but pragmatically, following existing corridors near the coast or through Al-Ain would make way more sense for cargo and passenger traffic. Also fair point on the old railway’s history; it’s a shame British sabotage killed off what could’ve been a lasting regional link. If they’re gonna revive the spirit of the Hejaz line, they should at least map it accurately and loop in the neighbors instead of making it a Saudi-only flex.
