My first Devlog is here for anyone who wants to hear a little more about this project and my thoughts around it. Current working title is Iomáint but anything can change with this yoke
I’m learning game dev as I go and it’s (unsurprisingly) kinda hard but I love it and this’ll all hopefully improve over time.
As a solo dev I’m trying to be a bit particular about where I focus my efforts, for me that’s programming/animation so I can focus on gameplay/gamefeel.
I wanna make this more arcade-y and just a bitta fun rather than trying to simulate a real match or copy that FIFA formula. I want something unique, and fun and just to gamify hurling at the end of the day.
I’m hoping I can figure something out so I can pursue this full time so if you’ve any advice lemme know. If it doesn’t work out at least it’s a good learning experience and could make for a decent portfolio.
The players will get their banana and cup of tea at half time…
And props if you can tell me what pitch this is loosely based on…

i feel like you should add a timing system for when hitting the sliotar that determines its accuracy, maybe a few hundred milliseconds where its a perfect hit and it deteriorates the longer you aim (thats if there isnt already an inaccuracy system)

Always fantastic to see more Irish game developers, well done!
Just keep at it and keep making games!
People might take the piss and say things throughout like “it’s like PS2 Graphics”
But at the end of the day, they haven’t a clue what they’re talking about.
Long story short, ignore any negativity from gobshites while making your games.

Could you make this into an open world game where it’s a young lad with a Hurley who just causes havoc ?

Looks class, agreed however the camera tilt on turning could be dialled down slightly

Could you add a supernatural element or elements ?

as a hurler I like the idea of a game. but the striking needs to not be guaranteed. And the hurl shouldn’t change hands….

You could do it like the olden days where one town goes against another town and the ball is placed halfway between the two towns. I’d play the fuck out of that

Thats deadly looking. Proper free form movement you see in other sports games, not janky stuck animations…
Looks proper good craic so far.

Nothing against the OP, theyve done an admirable job, but I’ve always thought Irish devs would find better success trying to make a 2D GAA themed game, like the ones we had in the 8 & 16bit era. For a 3d game we’re never going to get anyone to invest the resources needed to make it look good amongst the competition, so why not go down the old skool 2D route, and do something with great art which works?

Not bad lad. Fair play.
You ll of coarse be adding some Wayne Grasky style in game fights where the players get to puk the head off each other for 30 seconds,I assume.
