The fact that so many people are still leaving Portugal after 40 years of EU membership is not a strong endorsement of the EU.

It was surreal to see happen in real time and in such a short amount of time, let me tell you.
Seems to be slowing now with changes to migration law and some voluntary returns, but we’ll see. At some point living here is going to become so stupidly unaffordable native and migrant alike are going to leave lol. What a time and place to be in my 20s man

It’s a fairly small country with only two big population hubs. Setting aside the debate emigration is good/bad it is a problem of space and resources really. The country doesn’t seem ready for such population increase

How foreign are Brazilians, to the Portugese? It looks like that is the largest group. Out of curiosity I just wonder if you have the same or in what sense „immigration problems“ are different from that other EU countries experience with other immigrants? Same to a lesser extent with people from Cabo Verde and Angola I suppose.

Truly impressive how both Portugal and Ireland have become attractive societies in the course of just a couple of generations!!
In the aftermath of the Salazar era, poverty was widespread across Portugal, and female illiteracy was not uncommon. And now, Lisbon and Madeira are attracting investors and digital nomads and even celebrities like Madonna.
I guess the weather is nicer there than in Ireland. 😉

Wow that’s scary did you guys know that 20% of the United States is Hispanic and 8% African American? That must be the reason everything’s going to shit over there right???
