Looks like 7 year old me’s existential crisis has been averted.
50/50 within ten years, there will be a newer study that indicates that the Earth is doomed to enter the expanded Sun. There also would be a significant chance that yet another newer study indicates it would not be destroyed by the expanding sun.
It doesn’t matter too much if it survives or not, though, given that Earth will have its oceans and atmosphere blown away and the surface melted by the red giant Sun.
Doesn’t matter. None of us are going to be around to see it, anyway.

This is a somewhat surprising result as nievely you might expect a stronger tidal effect from the more modern model. But seems to be when it is applied you get the opposite!
