    1. My wife’s family are ethnic Azerbaijanis from the territory of modern Armenia, then the Yerevan Khanate. However, they came from close to the modern northern border, near lake Sevan, and administratively in the Russian empire their villages fell under the Qazax region. My wife is around 10 – 11 % East Asian, and roughly 25% medieval Turkic steppe genetically. If I use modern Turkmen and Afghan Turkmen into a simulation with neighboring West Asian groups, she scores roughly 30% Turkmen, which for Azerbaijanis, is a decent amount. I suspect that her father has even more

The Qazax region attracted extra layers of Turkic migrations, not only from Oghuz, but also Kipchaks, so this makes a lot of sense
